We had the good fortune of connecting with Eliot Popkin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eliot, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Such an interesting twist of events… My initial goal was to get more coaching clients. I have been a business coach for 22 years and I love helping business welcome more abundance and find more balance and clarity. When it was not so easy to get new clients, I realized most people on social media don’t really know who I am. Historically, almost all of my clients have been referrals. So, I decided to give myself a challenge:
I would build a brand new business from scratch and the goal is to hit a $1 Million valuation in 90 days.
Each day I record updates and post to social media so people can follow along and ask questions and hopefully be inspired.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am proud to say that I feel what I am doing is the absolute culmination of everything I have done. It has all prepared me for this moment.
I come from a humble beginning and a childhood with many challenges. My Father was an addict and was physically abusive to me for most of my childhood. My Mother passed from cancer when I was 15 years old. I found it very hard to trust people, build relationships, communicate effectively and welcome happiness and abundance.
After 22 years of helping businesses settle their tax debt, becoming a best-selling author, being an award-winning songwriter, and coaching many businesses over the last 2 decades, it all prepared me for my newest partnership:
I am now the Senior Director of the ERC Division at Abedian & Totlian, a CPA firm with over 40 years experience and they have successfully helped 1,100 business owners receive the ERC – Employee Retention Credit. This helps business that were affected by the pandemic. To be at this place in my career and be able to help as many businesses as I can, it is such a win/win and it is my pleasure.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love this question! So I live by the water in Redondo Beach, CA and we would start our day with an awesome walk along the Esplanade to smell the ocean air and then visit the village. Also I really love hiking, so I would love to take them on one of my favorite hikes in LA – there are so many to choose from. One of my favorite things to do is play beach volleyball, so we should bump, set, spike for a few hours. Is anyone tired yet? We have to have dinner at one of my favorite Italian restaurants which is Cantalini’s in Playa Del Rey – they have the best tomato sauce! What is a visit without spaghetti, right?
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Josh Myers. He is amazing. I have watched him grow so much. His business helps others with taxes and bookkeeping and he is so essential to his client’s success. Proud to call him a friend.
