We had the good fortune of connecting with Elisa Haggarty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elisa, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
A few years ago I stopped thinking about “work life” balance and adopted a “life-work” balance. In my twenties, I got really caught up in the “hustle” culture and too often confused my success in my career with my value. This led to a lot of burn out and imbalance with self worth. The richness of our life and the relationships/hobbies I invest in has a generative impact on the quality of work I do.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I run my own Leadership & Culture Consulting company where I work with leaders and teams all over the country to help create alignment and raise self-awareness. I believe what allows my work to be transformative for my clients is that it addresses the whole person in a radically honest and supportive way. I work with the “force multipliers” of teams and organizations and when they begin to shift their mindset and up-skill their ability to lead more conscious vs reactively, the impact is profound. My why for this work is really around mental health. Humans spend 40+ hours a week at work and very often the culture and relationships they experience influence their mood, personal lives and sense of self tremendously. I believe that teams who invest in their people are not only more productive but also, happier. I reject the idea that we must sacrifice our voices, our ideas and health in order to success in business and empower my clients to take radical responsibility for how they show up in the workplace.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A quick stop in Erewhon Market for incredible farm to table food and fresh juices and we would be on our way to the beaches in Malibu.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One of the more influential voices and teachers I’ve come across is Pema Chrodron. Pema’s books helped shaped my mind and spirit through early adulthood and have found their way into the type of leadership coaching I do.
