We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Kott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
One I always come back to is from The Artist’s Way: “Creativity is not about picking something up, it’s about putting something down.” It’s a reminder that creativity isn’t about striving or reaching for inspiration, it’s about the action of doing. I’m a one foot in front of the other type of person, a little action each day…. a little putting down of something each day will eventually create something.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always had a love for spotting trends and finding ways to share them with others. I started my career in entertainment and fashion PR around 2008, working on celebrity gifting suites for award shows. This was pre-social media and influencer culture—back when the way to get product attention was having it photographed alongside notable people. Picture a celebrity at Sundance standing in front of a step-and-repeat, holding a Nespresso machine.
At 24, I was hired by Rachel Zoe to run her daily newsletter, The Zoe Report. After three years, I was let go, which led to a brief stint at CAA before I launched Closet Rich, an online consignment business selling items from stylists and their celebrity clients. That venture opened the door to styling work and, in a roundabout way, to podcasting.

In 2014, I co-created That’s So Retrograde, a show focused on wellness trends, which I hosted for seven years. In 2022, I launched Too Niche?, which began as a show about niche trends and has since evolved into an interview series with people who’ve carved out their own unique paths—sharing their personal stories and their best recommendations within their niche.

In 2021, after experiencing a massive personal shift from working through Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way, I began leading small groups of friends through the book’s 12-week process. The groups grew organically as friends invited others, and after I recorded a podcast episode about the book’s impact on me, listeners asked if I would open the experience to everyone. I said yes, and Club Artist’s Way was born. I’m now heading into my sixth group this fall, and I’ve expanded my offerings to include monthly Mood Board Workshops and Studio Hours, a seven-week program designed for graduates of The Artist’s Way who want to keep their creative momentum going.

Today, I split my time between podcasting, producing, and collaborating with brands—pursuits that allow me to explore my own creativity and highlight the things I find inspiring in culture—while also holding space for others to reconnect with their own joy and creative potential. In a time when so much feels uncertain, that’s the work I’m most proud to do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ll give you my perfect Eastside day…
Early Morning: Start with a coffee at Cafecito Organico on Hoover, then visit to one of the most exciting places in the city: the Downtown LA Flower Mart (make sure to bring $2 cash for entry)
Then head over to Lamill grab a tea and then take a leisurely walk around the Silver Lake Reservoir
Brunch/Lunch: Stop by Proof Bakery in Atwater for one of their tiny sandwiches or Botanica in Silver Lake for brunch
Afternoon Activity: Catch a movie at the Vista Theater or the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown
Early Evening: Head to the Capri Club in Eagle Rock for a beverage and a snack
Late Dinner: Wrap up the day at Saffy’s

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
What immediately comes to mind are my friends—many of whom are inspiring creatives themselves. Their passions, talents, and constant support have been such a driving force in my own growth, both personally and professionally. I also have to shout out Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way. This book was a game-changer for me, helping me reconnect with my own creativity and ultimately shaping the direction of my career. It started as something deeply personal, and now, through Club Artist’s Way—the virtual groups I lead—I get to guide others through that same transformative process. It’s a space where people can show up for their creativity, find community, and build the kind of habits that keep their ideas flowing long after the twelve weeks are over.
