Meet Ellie Kelsey | Registered Dietitian

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ellie Kelsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ellie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
There wasn’t too much thought! And, I think that’s what has helped me the most. If I knew all of the ups and downs that were to come, I might not have went for it. My business story started with working in systems that did not align with my ethics. I had tried to change the systems from within by advocating for
my clients, sitting in on meetings I was not initially invited to, and spending “too much” time with my clients. I had tried to work in the way I felt most comfortable but the environment would not allow it. The last job was the worst when it came to this and was extremely toxic. I started to apply to new jobs but I was a poor interviewee because I am not a good liar; I didn’t want the job. When I told my friends what was going on for me, they suggested I start my own private practice. I went for it and I’m so glad I did. I followed all the steps to become a private practice provider. I’ve learned everything along the way. I am now able to practice the way I want to, with compassion, dignity and grace. After 1 year of being in practice I am still learning and loving the ride.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Don’t wait until everything is perfect. I realized if I waited until everything was perfect, I would be waiting forever. My brand is intentionally imperfect. I intentionally post imperfect food pictures and reels on my Instagram and Tiktok to showcase that food is not meant to be perfect and eating will never be “perfect”. I teach my patients how to be imperfect too.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
