We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Fletcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Moving to LA! I’m originally from Minnesota, and there were some acting opportunities out there, but I knew if I really wanted to pursue film and TV, I needed to be in Los Angeles. I sold all my belongings, loaded up my car, and drove here in the pouring rain. Showing up during a thunder storm could have been a very bad sign, but I chose to see the bright side. And now here I am four years later!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It has been so much fun getting to live out this dream. Seeing myself on screen is always a blast, and I love getting to see how projects come together. I love the process of making a movie. Rehearsing my roles, being on set, making friends and being goofy – there really isn’t anything better. Getting to see everyone at the premiere and getting to celebrate what we put together was such a cool and special thing. Everyone’s experience in this industry is different, but I love that. I love that everyone is making their own way. I love getting to be part of people’s different creative processes, seeing how people work when they’re really in their element. I’ve gotten to be part of some very very cool projects since coming here, and I’m so stoked to see what happens next.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I gotta say I’m a sucker for touristy things. I love Universal Studios, and my visitor probably wouldn’t let me, but if I’m being honest I could spend an entire day just endlessly riding the Mummy ride. I also really love Lake Hollywood Park, right under the Hollywood sign. There are so many dogs there all the time and it’s a great place to do yoga outside. If for some reason my visitor wants to do OTHER THINGS (why???) I guess we could go to Pitfire Pizza. I’m gluten-intolerant, and they have such a good gluten free crust. The Honey Bear pizza is my favorite. I hope they read this and sponsor me even if they only want to pay me in free Honey Bear pizzas.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d have to say my sister Lindsay. She has been my biggest fan and cheerleader since I came out here. My whole family has been wildly supportive of my crazy notion to come to the desert and make weird art, but she came all the way here from Minnesota while SIX MONTHS PREGNANT to see the festival premiere of my first feature. It’s a dark comedy about depression called This Sucks, and I play one of the main characters. Having her there (on the red carpet with me!) was such an incredible experience. And my brand new baby nephew gets to say he was at a film premiere! How many Minnesota babies get to claim that?
