We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Guerrero and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Most of my life, I’ve developed this awesome habit of staying engaged. I’ve always been open to trying new things and stepping out of my comfort zone in my career. I love being totally okay with the fact that if something doesn’t stick or work out, at least I know I was fully engaged in the entire process. I really believe that this mindset has helped shape me into the creator I am today!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an actor, singer, dancer, and puppeteer, and I believe my ability to adapt is what truly sets me apart. As an artist, I’ve always felt comfortable going with the flow. I’m unafraid to embrace the ridiculousness or explore deeper emotional levels in my acting.

I’m about to embark on my third tour, second International Tour with Cocomelon Sing Along Live! Which is incredibly exciting, and I’m eternally grateful for this entire journey!

I got to this point in my career by staying focused and keeping my eyes on my path. It was never easy! There was a time when, after going to so many auditions in New York, I moved to California to finish college and felt nervous about whether I should stay. But honestly, growing up in South Texas, the California scene just clicked for me. I fell in love with the environment and the people, and it felt like home. I graduated from AMDA with my BFA, juggled about six jobs, and started booking shows.

I’ve learned to always say “thank you.” It seems so simple, but there’s honestly so much that goes into this industry. Everyone plays a major role in making musicals, movies, TV shows, commercials, and more. Just one note of gratitude to those around you can really stand the test of time.
Another lesson I picked up is that your friends from college theater school can help you get future jobs! So, always keep in touch with your peers, check in on your friends, and ask how they’re doing. I got my first national tour because my best friend from college recommended me to the Artistic Director. I had just texted him a few weeks prior to see how he was doing, and then he sent me a text saying he recommended me to the director because I’d fit the production perfectly. I didn’t even audition for that tour, but I got it all thanks to my best friend TJ looking out for me. Love you, TJ!

Coming from such a small town, I would’ve never ever thought in a million years that I would be in this point of my career. I get to perform everyday, and travel the world! Truly anything is possible if you put in the work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a Mexican-American from South Texas, I have to say that the tacos de camarón from Mariscos Jalisco are absolutely incredible! After that, I’d definitely grab a frozen Rosé from Elbow Room in Hollywood; it brings back such great memories of spending time with old friends. I’d also love to head to Manhattan Beach to soak up some sun and enjoy some ice cream. During the day, I’d visit The Grove to possibly catch a movie, and I’d finish the night with an improv comedy show at UCB!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my entire family back in Brownsville, TX. They’ve supported me throughout my entire journey as an artist, from driving me to vocal competitions to funding my dance education, and always attending the musicals I’ve starred in here in California. I also want to give a special recognition to my beloved partner, Irma Barcena. She’s been my number one fan since the beginning of my LA career. Irma always encourages me to be my best self and keeps me dreaming big! Love you all!
