We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Kelly and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my own production company called Wolflion Studios when I was 16 years old, and I am so glad that I did. As a kid, I absolutely loved to run around my house with a camera, recording home movies with my little sister. Over time, I became known as the “film-kid” at school. If anyone needed video work or wanted to make a movie for fun, they came to me! I had my own camera, could edit special effects on my computer, and had a blast doing it! It wasn’t until I was in high school that I began to make money for making films. My friends’ parents asked my to make promotional videos for their companies. My brother knew a musician looking for an album hype video. It wasn’t long before I was shooting professional-looking videos for companies around the greater-Atlanta area simply because my name was passed along from friend to friend. At this point in my life, I knew that I wanted to be a filmmaker. I loved to film things, and more importantly, I loved to edit. Those set of skills that I grew up with turned into a part-time job, and eventually my dad encouraged me to start my own production company to help market myself. I designed a logo, created a website, and got Wolflion Studios off of the ground! At the time that I was choosing the name for my production company, I was applying for film schools in Los Angeles. I decided upon the name Wolflion Studios because my high school mascot was a wolf and my college mascot was a lion. I am a proud LMU alum! I am so grateful for the support that I had from family and friends when starting my own production company. To this day, I am still creating advertising and marketing videos for doctors offices, schools, churches, non-profits, musicians, and individuals in Atlanta and Los Angeles! I can’t wait to see how Wolflion Studios continues to grow over the next few years.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My personal favorite project is currently in the works! I recently directed a coming-of-age short film called Flow.

Flow follows a terminally-ill dancer and her protective best friend as they clash over the decision to continue dancing for their toxic instructor. I’ve been wanting to tell this story for a while now. Dance has a very special place in my heart. One of my best friends introduced me to the dance world when I was in middle school. We spent countless hours practicing together, making up routines, and going to classes. There is a beauty to movement, and dance gave me a place to express emotions that I couldn’t really put into words. Dance is freeing and satisfying, but at the same time, the dance world itself can be competitive and overwhelming. I want to tell a story about the dance world that highlights the good and the bad. I want to tell a story for those that have ever been pushed to their physical, emotional, and mental limits. This film is about holding on to what you love.

I directed a very amazing and talented crew of over 35 filmmakers with various accolades and background experiences for this project. Post-production is well under way and I can’t wait to share this film with the world!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My ideal day in LA would include a lot of the following activities! – breakfast at Met Her At A Bar for some fantastic waffles
– visit the Griffith Observatory for good views and even better hikes
– stop at Golf N’ Stuff for some mini golfing and go-karting
– dinner at Gangnam Station Korean BBQ (the best Korean BBQ restaurant I’ve ever been to)
– see a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Downtown Los Angeles
– if you’re feeling dessert, give SOMISOMI a try

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my Dad! He has been a constant support system in my life and especially in my creative journey. He pushes me to be the best version of myself and never hesitates to lend a hand when I need it. Thank you so much, Dad!
