Meet Emily Sophia | Singer Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Sophia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
When I was a toddler, my grandma used to play movies like The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins and watching Julie Andrews at such a young age struck something in me that made me want to do the same as her. That was the first time I felt a calling to the arts and as I got older, it never left. Songwriting has been my outlet to express myself and I want to share my songs with the world so others can relate and not feel alone.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Currently, I am most proud of my music video for my song called Ghost that was released this Halloween. I am an undiscovered and independent artist so I relied on an instagram advertisement and a dream to assemble a team. To help me fund my dreams, I teach private piano and voice lessons, so I saved up enough to hire a crew. I graduated from the LA campus of AMDA College and Conservatory. Everything I know about the industry and the motivation I have to keep going is all owed to my teachers from there. The journey so far has not been easy as everything I do is self funded, but it’s always worth it in the end. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to make other friends within the industry because everyone is so helpful!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spot in all of Southern California is the Getty Center. It’s so beautiful! So much art to look at and there is an outdoor area as well and it has an INCREDIBLE view of the city. I also love the Huntington Library and Descanso Gardens for a breath of fresh air. My favorite coffee spot is called Nambah Coffee that is located in La Verne. Not only is the coffee excellent but the baristas are always so nice.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to my producer Noriko Olling for helping me produce my first EP and brining my artistic vision to life.
