We had the good fortune of connecting with Emma Younan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emma, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
When I first got into film, I was fully committing my time to my work. Having been in the industry a few years now, I’ve started to notice that being on set full time really takes a toll on you. I now give more importance to my creative endeavors outside of work, like photography and writing. Having enough time to rest after a long shoot is important as well, so I’m careful with which projects I commit to.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My last job was as Craft PA on The Phoenician Scheme. The project was shot in Germany, where I’ve been working the past two years. Looking for work in a place that has fewer opportunities is difficult, but it also allowed me to get bigger projects. And while Craft PA is not exactly a glamorous position, every job is what you make of it – so if I’m going to be craft PA, I’ll try to do the best job I possibly can. I got to meet people who are the best in the world at what they do, and watching them work reminded me how much I love working in film.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Board House Coffee, go to the beach in Venice, get Udon at Marugame Udon or Mole Enchiladas at Lares Restaurant, go to the Silverlake fleamarket on sundays. Something cool I recently went to was a 35mm screening of Clueless at the Academy Museum. It was only $5 for students and is part of an ongoing series they’re doing, where they show films that show different aspects of LA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I don’t know how I would’ve gotten through the long days on set in my student days without my dad. He would have dinner ready for me when I came home from a 14-hour day. He’d pick me up from a shoot at 4am. Having my parents believe in me like that really means a lot.
