We had the good fortune of connecting with Emmanuel Osorio and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emmanuel, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I was born and raised in Los Angeles around the outskirts of Downtown L.A. in a lower income neighborhood, so I knew from a very early age that I would have to work very hard to be successful. Growing up, I saw many businesses come and go, and many store owners struggle to keep from closing. I have always been interested in movies and the arts, so I created the goal to aim towards a career in Hollywood from a very early age.

Success in the entertainment industry is really based on the strong relationships you create with others. If you are a humble, dependable, hard-working artist, and you prove yourself to be a team player that is courteous to others and respectful of people’s time and contributions, you will have a very rewarding career. A lot of people assume that Hollywood is very competitive, but If you stay true to yourself and your artistic inspirations, people will be attracted to the projects you create and recognize your talent.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

All of the scripts I have written so far, I always write myself a role. I have always loved acting and performing and since BLASE L.A. is semi-autobiographical, I definitely felt that I would be able to bring my own experiences into the role. When I spoke to other filmmakers and potential producers, they all said it’s a huge responsibility to act in your own film. It did seem intimidating to me at first, but as we started rehearsing and filming some early scenes, it all started to come together pretty easily. The main challenge is trusting the people around me and if they said “I think you should do that again or try things this way” I allowed myself to take their advice and know that they are telling me certain things that are only going to make the film and my performance the best it can be.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Los Angeles is such a big city that has so much to offer. There is something fun to do everywhere you that will fit anything you are in the mood for. If you feel like a sunny beach day, you can go to Venice and walk around the boardwalk or head to Malibu for some amazing seafood restaurants — where you just might spot a celebrity or two.

If you want sushi, there are many great sushi spots in L.A. – one that I love is Tenno in Little Tokyo

If you feel like having a movie day, there are so many great theatres. My favorite place to watch movies is Quentin Tarantino’s New Beverly Cinema. They show double-features of so many classic films old and new. The Alama Drafthouse in Downtown Los Angeles is another favorite. I also enjoy going to special curated film events at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica which usually has the filmmaker appear in person for a Q&A.

If you want to have some amazing Mexican food, I love Gilbert’s El Indio on Pico in Santa Monica and El 7 Mares. For Italian food, I would recommend Alejo’s in Marina Del Rey. They are the best I’ve ever tasted.
