Meet Eric Gordon | I Take Outstanding Pictures of Products For Money

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Gordon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
What makes me happy? Good question. At a basic level, I like problem solving and good Mexican food. Doing something I love to do, is challenging on multiple levels, and allows me to eat my favorite food type on a regular basis makes me happy. Owning my own business that provides a select clientele with still and video images they need to promote their own product lines answers that request.
I also like warmth and sunshine, so living in SoCal near the beach and mountains and being married and raising a child makes me happy as well.
I am blessed. 🙂

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I LOVE to listen to my client’s needs and problem solve in my studio to come up with outstanding imagery for them! I hope it shows in everything I do and say. I don’t know what sets me apart from others, I don’t spend time thinking about that (probably should I guess) but rather, I get a new product and its team in my shop, and I spend my time thinking how to set them apart from others. I am proud of my teams I have assembled over the years and the body of work we have created, but mostly I am proudest of the success of the images we create and the success of their companies that use us time and again. Nothing worth doing and doing well is easy. If it is easy, something is wrong, your “Spideysense” should start tingling big time….I got where I am today by working my ass off night and day and weekends too for years and years. I only listen to and surround myself with optimists and successful people…Never giving in to the siren song of mediocrity or saying “that’s good enough…” or “That will do, they aren’t paying enough for more than this…” That is soul destroying.
My motto for our company that I tell new prospective clients is “Just have us photograph the things you want to sell” 🙂 I want the world to know that if you hire my studio, you will get 110% and will always get more than your money’s worth from us. Anything less is not worth it to me, like my father always said: “There are easier ways to make money if that is all you want out of life”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Santa Barbara, California, which is an aesthetically beautiful everywhere you look beach/mountains community. This is on purpose. My best friends from around the world have visited me and I usually tailer there experience here based on their interests. If they are outdoorsman types, we go up into the mountains hiking and eating at places like Cold Spring Tavern, If they are foodies and wine lovers, I take them to the Santa Ynez valley and our local wine country; as well as to some of the best restaurants in Santa Barbara and Los Olivos…etc. If they are history buffs (like me), there is the Missions, art, American and Spanish cultural heritage locations to keep us busy for weeks here. There is also the beach, surfing, golfing, and the Channel Islands….it never ends here. I chose this place to live on purpose because my thinking was “if all else fails and I am a failure, I would prefer being a failure here than anywhere else!” 😉

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
1st off a shoutout to my wife, Valerie, an outstanding creative talent (graphic artist) who keeps me balanced in all aspects of life. Whenever business has me down, she reminds me that I am an asset to to any client that hires me; and conversely, when I get too full of myself and success; she reminds me to clean the garage.
2nd a shoutout to my parents who stressed the importance of being self employed; and to always do your best at anything you choose. No matter how silly or mundane the task, give it everything you got, and smile the entire time you are doing it. 🙂
