Meet Eric Marks | CEO of Transported Audio

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Marks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I deeply enjoyed working directly with creative people, and wanted to build upon the foundation and trust I’d built with clients I was already working with. It was certainly risky to leave comfortable paychecks, but this drive to build deeper relationships and expand upon our collaborations is what motivated me!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We take a lot of pride in our positivity as a team. Our industry can certainly be an exhausting grind, but we believe that the energy you bring to your craft and relationships goes a long way in the synergy that we build with creatives. We aim to bring our best selves to each day, not just in terms of the quality and speed of work, but also with fresh ideas and an openness to feedback.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Go to Malibu!!! Find a quiet place on the beach, or a nice restaurant like Duke’s, and just soak in the sun and ocean breeze. Or go for a hike in the mountains!
LA is unique in that there’s beach, desert and a dense city…. but the quiet calm that many sound people seek is usually found in hidden gems that aren’t on the beaten path.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are too many people to thank for my success, but in recent years I want to express my gratitude to the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE). I became a member in 2014 thanks to a recommendation letter by Lydian Tone, an incredible sound editor. In 2019 I was elected to be on the MPSE board of directors, where more opportunities really opened up for me. Fellow board member Christina Horgan took me under her wing and trained me on everything she knew, and that was before she became the editor in chief for our quarterly Wavelength magazine! And our president Mark Lanza gave me the keys to our live Sound Advice events, where I’ve been hosting events now for over three years. I’ve been floored by how many legendary supervising sound editors and their teams have been open to sharing their stories live with our members, and I have learned a tremendous amount from their stories. I have nothing but gratitude for all of these wonderful opportunities.
