Hi Eric, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The calling to start Black Bird Records sprouted from a deep-seated passion for music, one that began long before I ventured into the realm of recording and producing. Throughout my life, music has always been more than just notes and rhythms; it’s been a conduit for emotions, a means of storytelling, and, above all, an outlet for creativity. However, as I immersed myself in the industry, I witnessed how many talented artists struggled to find platforms that would allow them to truly express themselves without compromise.

This realization ignited a fire within me: I wanted to create a space where artists can be unapologetically themselves, while having the necessary resources to bring their visions to life. Black Bird Records was born out of this desire — a place not just for recording music, but for fostering genuine partnerships with artists and bands.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

From the moment I picked up a guitar and began recording on cassettes with a karaoke machine, I knew that music would be my life’s calling. The thrill of creating melodies and harmonies captured my heart and ignited my passion. However, I also understood that this would not be an easy journey. Like any worthwhile pursuit, the path to chasing a dream is often riddled with mental and emotional challenges. Yet, it’s precisely these hurdles that make the rewards so much sweeter.

With the establishment of Black Bird Records, I found something even more profound than I had anticipated. It has become my proudest achievement, a culmination of years dedicated to mastering the art of music creation. Each step in the process—writing songs, performing, recording, mixing, manufacturing, and ultimately distributing vinyl records—has taught me about the intricate beauty of this art form.

Yet, the challenges are ever-present. One of the most significant obstacles I’ve faced is navigating the complex landscape of government laws and taxes that continually evolve. As a label owner, I’ve had to become not only a musician but also a businessperson. This has meant studying regulations, consulting with colleagues, and making informed decisions to ensure the sustainability and success of Black Bird Records.

Throughout this journey, I learned a crucial lesson: while some people may not believe in you or your vision, the most important belief must come from within. There have been moments steeped in doubt and uncertainty, but I’ve found strength in faith. God has illuminated my path during these discouraging times, reminding me that passion and conviction can withstand the storms.

My enduring passion fuels my work at Black Bird Records. I am dedicated to creating a legacy that champions authenticity in musical creation. Our goal is to give voice to the stories of the inner city—echoing the struggles, triumphs, and experiences that shape our communities. Music is not merely an escape; it’s a powerful medium for self-expression and social commentary. It is my hope that through our records, we can inspire and uplift, leaving behind a musical testimony of our lives.

Los Ángeles has a plethora of amazing mom-and-pop restaurants and street vendors thrive, cherished by locals and food lovers alike. Sharing these local favorites with friends is more than just a meal; it’s a heartfelt experience that embodies the spirit of community and tradition.

In the summer, the iconic Southern California coast is favorite hot spot for beach shenanigans.

With the arrival of spring, the allure of the outdoors calls for a drive up to Angeles National Forest or the San Gabriel Mountains. This is a wonderful adventure for those seeking to bask under the majestic trees, explore winding trails, and revel in the beauty of nature.

When winter arrives in Los Angeles, the nearby mountains transform into a snow-capped wonderland, beckoning adventurers to Big Bear Lake. A short drive from the city, Big Bear offers a vast amount of activities for winter enthusiasts. Whether it’s skiing, snowboarding, or simply indulging in a cozy cabin retreat, the mountain vibes are irresistible.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Above all, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to God for blessing me with the talent and ability to produce, sound engineer, write songs, sing, and perform all over the world. Each note and lyric that flows from my heart is a testament to the gifts I have received, and I am deeply appreciative of the opportunity to share my passion with audiences everywhere.
