We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Wright Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in South Jersey but spent a good portion of my childhood in North Jersey then eventually Delaware. Living in the city as well as a slower country area helped create a balance in myself. I can adapt easily to any environment. Beyond my environment, my family created a huge impact on who I am. My parents had me while they were young which brought forth a lot of obstacles and doubt from people. Seeing them both overcome the negativity to not only raise me but to excel in their lives showed me that anything is possible. I watched them both earn their degrees as a kid, I was the 8-year-old who tagged along to my parent’s college lectures after school. Being in a collegiate space as a child helped me learn about critical thinking much earlier than my peers. So I was able to question more things which led to more answers and a strong identity in who I am and what I believe is the truth. On top of that, my extended family is filled with amazing people, nearly everyone in my family has main-character energy haha. To be heard or fit in you had to be confident so you weren’t left in someone else’s shadow. When life gets me down I recharge by connecting with my family so I can be reminded of who I am and where I come from.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Right now I’m in a period of resetting or reinventing myself as well as my business. The way I worked previously I technically would be a freelancer. But through mentorship, reading, and education I can see there’s a big difference between being a freelancer and running a business.
I’m shifting into consulting/coaching. I spent a great deal of time gaining experiences across a variety of spaces and now it’s time for me to give back. The information that I possess will help others get to where they want to go and succeed. I have two sectors in which I can make the biggest impact – advertisement and day trading. On paper, they look like two different worlds but they both deal heavily with human psychology.
Getting to this place in business took a lot of unraveling and soul-searching. The biggest obstacle to all of this was myself. Realizing my own negative beliefs and imposter syndrome blocked me from recognizing my gifts. For a while, I felt like I didn’t know enough which kept me in a cycle of always seeking out new information. Now I’ve overcome this by taking action and getting back to the confident individual I know I am.
I want the world to know that I will get everything and more out of this life, but it won’t just be me. I’m bringing all those that can come with me. In a society that values being a lone wolf or loner, I’m challenging that belief and showing that you can succeed with the people you came up with and you don’t have to be alone.
As far as my brand, we are in the infant stages. The fastest way to do anything is slow. So you’ll see some big things from us far in the future. I’m only 27 so I’m not rushing my success or process, everything comes to one day, one moment, one step at a time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m such a homebody so we would spend most of the trip eating and drinking at home lol. I feel like the quality of eating out has dropped dramatically due to demand and how ‘busy’ our lives have become. But if we had to eat out I would go to Bardea, Harry’s Savoy Grill (great steakhouse), and to Keem’s! For drinks, I would get us a nice old-fashioned from the Simmer Down at the Quoin Hotel.
As far as activities in Delaware, I don’t do too much. I tend to travel out of the state to Maryland, PA, NJ, Or NY. But if we had to stay in Delaware I’d do some regular stuff like go to the movies, or bowling, play basketball at the Y. I’m a simple guy honestly as long as we are laughing I don’t need to do much.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are too many people I have to shout out, to condense it I’d have to give credit to all my brothers/friends who have helped shape me along the way. I believe in surrounding myself with greatness and people who are better or further than me. To name a few in particular from a creative/business perspective. I’d have to shout out Jabari Jefferson he showed me what was possible in the creative field and got me started in the industry. Without us crossing paths who knows how things would have turned out. I also want to shout out my lover and partner Dashayna Brown, she’s supported me from Day 1 throughout my crazy journey as an entrepreneur. Giving me the space to vent, and reassuring me when things go sour. Beyond the support, she has been an inspiration to me and has shown me that magic is real. The things I’ve seen her do and accomplish wow me. I’ve never seen someone create and manifest things into life so effortlessly.
