Meet Erica Qing

We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Qing and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erica, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I think time waits for no one and if you really want something, you should go for it. The last thing you want to do is look back months or years later analyzing how much time was wasted and what you could’ve did with your time to reach whatever goal you had in mind. I recently had to make a time sensitive decision myself being laid off from my job and deciding on waiting for a transfer or going to school for the next 4 months to become an esthetician. My biggest fear was starting school and having to stop in between my program if I got called for a job assignment. I had to rely on my faith in God that everything is going to work out in divine timing. I decided to take that risk and enroll last minute. Now 4 months later, I’m preparing for graduation and my state board exam all before the New Year. Taking that risk was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made this year because I just got that much closer to my business goals. No time was wasted and I was able to complete my program without any breaks in between. Taking that risk free’d up some time for next year plans and I’m so proud of myself for knocking out one of my short term goals because it all worked out in my favor. It just goes to show that risks are necessary and can be the step you need to go in the right direction.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started off as a Microblading Artist back in 2019. During covid, I decided to transfer my skills to machine work instead. It just seemed more of my speed being that I’m a natural artist when it comes to drawing. I caught on pretty quickly and practiced a lot to master my skill, but didn’t start taking clients again till July 2024. I knew for a long time that I didn’t want to be limited to being able to just do permanent makeup and wanted to be able to offer other services that still align with beauty enhancements. That’s when I decided to enroll in school to become an esthetician. Now I’ll be able to offer skincare, waxing, lashes and brow tint + lamination services. I even rebranded my business from “Brows and Qings” to “Qing Aesthetics” so people can recognize my business as a one stop shop.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Personally, I’m not too much of a fan of where I live because it’s a small dessert in the Antelope Valley with minimal opportunities and hardly anything to do. I’m a city girl and originally from West Los Angeles and some of my favorite places to go to out there are the Culver City stairs and the Kenneth Hahn park for a chill day, rooftop lounges and anything by a beach or with some scenery. My favorite food spot right now is Grilled Fraiche. The food is amazing and customer service is always top tier. Would highly recommend to anyone traveling to the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my friend/mentor Nastahja for always being the mentor I needed and the friend I wanted. She doesn’t sugar coat anything when it comes to this business stuff and always keeps it real if she see’s me slacking or seeing where I need to make some adjustments. I’ve learned so much from her and it has helped me in so many ways already. I always go to her first when I’m indecisive about my next business strategy. She’s been running a successful business way longer than me and it has allowed her to live the life I see myself living in the next few years, so I really value her opinion when it comes to a lot of things because I know she’s already been through all of the emotions to get to where she’s at now. I believe every person who is pursuing something needs a real friend/mentor in their corner to give them the raw version of what it’s really like running a business and trying to grow it and I’m glad I have that with her.
