We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Jellison Rusler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin Jellison, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The underlying idea of starting my own business is to pursue my passion while also helping others and making a living. My business plan is rooted in my desire to bring love and service to people, and this is the vision that guides me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The fields of yoga, wellness, therapy, and ayurveda all converge in the realm of spirituality. The beauty of this domain is that one can approach it from any of these practices and still attain the ultimate goal of bliss. Personally, I approach spirituality from a more physical and practical perspective, utilizing yoga postures, breathing techniques, meditation, and other therapies to gain better control over my awareness. I tend to think of myself as a creative athlete.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Santa Monica is one of my favorite places on earth. It’s a city full of life and energy and always makes me feel alive. My perfect day in Santa Monica starts with a morning meditation, followed by a delicious cup of coffee at Espresso Cielo to fuel my body and mind. Then, I jump on my bike and head out to one of the many yoga studios in the city; I love Hot8 Santa Monica and Shefa in Venice Beach.

One of the best things about Santa Monica is the abundance of bike lanes that take you everywhere you need to go. I love riding straight down the Santa Monica pier and heading north up the bike path to the beach house. The Annenberg Beach House is my happy place – it’s got everything I need to recharge my batteries. I can take a short walk on the sand, dive into the ocean, and then jump into the pool during summer. If I want to relax, I can sit on the patio under the sprinklers and enjoy the beautiful weather.
The North Santa Monica Beach is also perfect for hanging out with friends and family. It is excellent for families and kids. My three sons all learned to swim there.
There’s plenty of space to play volleyball, and the food is delicious at Back on the Beach Cafe. You can get a table in the sand. Or bring a picnic; I always shop at the Santa Monica Coop to support local growers or the Farmers Market on the Promenade on Wednesday and Saturday. I take everyone who visits me to the beach without hesitation – it’s a must-visit spot in Santa Monica.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give credit to my Hot 8 Yoga family. All of the teachers supported my journey and trained me. I wish to acknowledge Deanna Ainsworth for being a key person in my yoga path. This Yoga teacher training journey was the path that led me to my yoga master’s degree at Loyola Marymount University with Dr. Christoper Key Chapple, who is a true inspiration in all things yoga. My mentor in Yoga Therapy, Dr. Lori Rubenstein-Fazzio, has taught me that being a yoga therapist is a lifelong study. Also, my newfound home is at the Doshi Center for Integrative Health and Maharishi AyurVeda. A clinic supporting my vision and goals to bring these two disciplines into functional medicine as a legitimate source of wellness. This is my dharma, my life’s purpose.
