We had the good fortune of connecting with Esther Sutanto and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Esther, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks is the key and the essence of life. It is the gateway for second chances, the ability to mend mistakes, taking that leap of faith to follow your heart to achieve satisfaction. The future is at the palm of our hands; we can either take the risk to explore and gain awareness of what the world have for us or stay at our comfort zone building mental limitations, eliminating any failure and risks. Exploring options with a different attitude, to step out of the box making the effort to attempt something out of the ordinary. With every stroke of a painting or a note from a musician, we stretch ourselves emotionally and physically, risking any form of criticism and judgments. Despite the countless criticism and judgments faced, we will discover and be aware of our maximum potential.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In all my works, I still use the basic fundamental of photography; the focus is to experiment with different dimensions and techniques. Playing with different textures, using different mediums . Breaking all the different rules and creating an outwork that is out of the norm (well i try), poetic yet mysterious. It was definitely not easy, alot of trial and error, almost close to giving up. Well haven’t really overcome majority of my challenges, when I think I have overcome certain challenges, theres bound to be a new one coming in my direction. But the challenge are exiting, with all the difficulties that I went through, I am willing to learn and see more things so that I can grow creatively.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Would take them to different restaurants, get some drink and be at home, Would bring them to the beach, stay at home, sorry I like staying at home. I would probably go on a road trip, go to different towns explore since i dont go out that much either.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
would like to thank my family and friends that have given me the complete support when things get difficult, especially during the pandemic.
