Meet Eva Sparks-Metoyer | CPA & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eva Sparks-Metoyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eva, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My husband and I have been enjoying hookah for over 10 years and it’s one of our favorite date nights. We like to call ourselves “connoisseurs of hookah!” The vibe we both enjoy while smoking hookah is very chill, laid back with relaxing music like neo soul or old school R&b. Over the years we started to notice hookah lounges become more like clubs with a lot of traffic and more hard core rap music, which we still love, we just wanted a more chill vibe for our date nights! We decided to open SparkitUp Hookah because my husband and I wanted to bring back a more grown and sexy vibe for hookah lounges so couples and individuals can come for a night cap or just a chill time with some good hookah. Zoning issues and COVID-19 hit like a ton of bricks the same month we were scheduled to open our brick and morter location but we didn’t let that stop us! We pivoted and started doing mobile deliveries in LA to provide people with everything they need for hookah at home. We bring our customers a hookah pipe, coal burner, coals, tongs and your choice of TWO flavors of shisha or Teabacco, a non-nicotine alternative that people really love! The mission of SparkitUp Hookah is to always provide a relaxing and fun environment where our community can enjoy quality hookah and each other.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
SparkitUp Hookah is the ONLY hookah delivery service in Los Angeles! We pride ourselves on timely, professional service and quality products. Establishing this business was no easy feat. We lost our location in Venice Beach last March due to zoning issues, then when we found another location to rent COVID-19 hit and we could not open. We decided to do mobile delivery because we saw there was still an immense need for at home entertainment during quarantine so if our customers could not come to us, we would bring hookah to them! This year has taught us to think quickly in providing solutions to problems out of our control and how to pivot our business strategy. Our brand and story is an example of teamwork, perseverance and strategy.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
My husband and I are proud to be LA born and raised. He grew up in the Jungles, I’m from 29th and Normandie and we met in 1996 at Fox Hills mall! An ideal week if one of our friends was visiting town would be visiting the African-American museum by USC, lunch at Flavor Table in Inglewood, laying on the beach in Malibu and end the night with one of our favorite spots on Fairfax, The Dime.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My best friend and husband, Tahigee for his continued support in every idea and business venture I have. Thank you for making me feel happy, supported and loved!
