We had the good fortune of connecting with Evan Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Evan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For a company to live, it has to be profitable – working for somebody else provides a sense of job security, but often limits autonomy and access to the upside of success – starting our production company was a natural progression as we started shooting and realized it was more profitable to do things in house than to hire other companies.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Directing commercials and photographing ad campaigns around the world, sometimes out the side of an airplane, other times 100′ under the sea, we love to help bring great products to life. The only way to grow is to be surrounded by the best team out there – especially for video work, which requires massive group coordination. By the time we are showing up to direct a campaign, brands have often worked for years to launch an idea – we just hope to make the last step in that journey the most fun for them, and for ourselves too.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA’s best enjoyed at the edges – on the coast, at the Northern extremes towards Ventura county, or out east by Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley. Hollywood is fine, but LA isn’t the best big city – it’s fantastic for the mountains and ocean, a hike or swim, followed by some great sushi at Shunji, classic fare at Mozza, or dry aged fish at The Joint Eatery.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The group of pilots at Whiteman airport has been a huge help, giving much wisdom as we work to bring a new aerial imaging platform to the world.
