We had the good fortune of connecting with Eve Richards and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eve, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?

I am an actress and marketing professional who is passionate about the acting industry, fashion, travel, and giving back to the community. Growing up in London, New York, Africa, and Boston, I was exposed to different experiences and cultures that shaped my artistic sensibilities. Living with a confrontational lawyer and righteous judge made my home life entertaining—especially when I developed a passion for theatrics! My aspirations led me to act on stage in high school, which led to my current career as an actress. The influence of my parents in my early years—coupled with my experiences living in multiple global cities, instilled in me a strong work ethic and motivated and inspired me to pursue my dreams, regardless of any challenges that I would face in the future. I believe in maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle and keeping an eye on the latest news and updates in the industry, and continuously seeking out projects that excite me. Even though I strive for perfectionism, I also understand the feeling of pure happiness and escapism that acting offers. The moment we are performing, our problems don’t exist; any worries or qualms that are surrounding us at that time don’t matter, and that is something I wouldn’t give up for the world.

Shakespeare also wrote, “Speak low if you speak of love.” Yes, the context of this quote resonates with me. I’ve been told many times before that I can love acting, but I should keep it quiet and pursue a ‘real career.’ I’ve also asked myself, ‘Is there any other path of work that would genuinely make me happy?’ and the answer is and always has been a big no. Acting is my passion, and I am committed to pursuing it wholeheartedly. I firmly believe there is nothing else in the world that can beat the adrenaline rush I feel when I’m on stage in front of a crowd or the thrill that courses through my body when the director calls ‘Action!’ (If you’re a performer reading this, you’re most likely nodding your head and can recall that feeling.)
Furthermore, I understand the importance of surrounding yourself with like-minded people who support and uplift one another. Shakespeare was onto something when he wrote, “The sight of lovers feedeth those in love.” When we see others doing something that gives them joy, it feeds our soul. Thus, witnessing other people follow their dreams and find joy in their work inspires me. I strive to build a network of positive, supportive people – people who help me grow in the industry instead of making me doubt. Every day brings with it new challenges and obstacles, but I approach each one as an opportunity to make it the most productive or life-changing day for my future. I also believe in investing time and energy wisely. There are always going to be people who cross your path; you just have to decide if they’re worth investing precious time in. Overall, my work ethic is driven by a deep passion for acting and a desire to learn and evolve as an actress. Last but not least, I’m committed to giving my all in each role I take on, bringing dedication, authenticity, and a unique view to my performances.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

One of my biggest strengths as an actress is my unwavering work ethic – I am hard-working, and I understand the dedication and effort needed to succeed in this industry, so I’m committed to putting my time and energy in it to excel as a working actress. I’m fully aware that success doesn’t happen overnight; it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to become an accomplished actress. b. Secondly, I possess a unique blend of confidence and patience which enables me to handle the pressures of being in the public eye. Besides, I’m so comfortable in my own skin that I believe authenticity is necessary to portray any character effectively.
c. Third, I have the flexibility to show my range and versatility: this gives me the ability to transition between different roles and genres, allowing me to showcase my range.
d.,l have a deep passion for roles where I feel authentically myself, such as real-life stories and experiences. Growing up surrounded by lawyers, I have a unique understanding of this field, and I feel a great connection to legal roles. Additionally, I am passionate about the fashion industry and giving back something positive to the world. Due to my comfort level and knowledge in these areas, I feel I will be able to bring a genuine performance to these roles. However, I believe my work ethic, versatility, confidence, patience, and passion for real-life experiences make me perfect for a diverse range of roles.

It is no secret that it is difficult to find “true” friends in this industry. However, it is not impossible. It is really important to be careful who you trust and do not get involved in controversies. Surround yourself with positive people and stay humble. Just stay true to who you really are and the rest will follow. Additionally, the entertainment industry is a numbers game but don’t be discouraged because it can be difficult to land a job. Sometimes, you can apply for a hundred auditions but only get a call for one (or none at all). Do not lose faith; do not get jealous over the success of colleagues; and make every audition, success and failure a lesson to learn from. Never to quit, especially if you believe this career is truly your calling. Also, continue to seek for opportunities to help you grow and develop as an artist. Lastly, no matter what happens, never forget your family and true friends.

As an actress, my hope to encourage and inspire others is through my performances. Storytelling is powerful enough to provoke emotions, touch people’s hearts, and make a lasting influence. By portraying multiple characters and bringing their stories to life, I strive to remind the audience how much it is important to pursue your dreams and embrace your true passion. Remember: you only have one life to live, so make sure you look back at your decisions in life with fondness, not regret what could have been. I hope to help individuals to reconnect with their inner child when they used to play make-believe and create limitless stories. When I first think about why I wanted to become an actress, I think about how often I used to play make-believe as a child. Just to name a few creations: I was an astronaut, a ballerina. Thinking back to those times when I had no worries in the world, and all that faced me was undiluted joy, I realized that is when I was at my most vulnerable and open. Any inhibitions I might have possessed were freed, leaving me at my most truthful.

I want to encourage others to recall all the times when they, too, were just as curious as they were when they used to play make-believe and create stories. That is the same mindset with which we should approach each role and story. By developing this mindset, we can discover the truth and deliver authentic performances that intrigue the audience deeply. Yes, facing new roles can be nerve-wracking, but it’s also liberating. It’s about exploration and discovering that pure truth, remembering there are no regrets in life, only lessons. We’re storytellers above all, and the story comes first. Learn to internalize and draw from your emotions to make scenes more realistic. However, do not forget to strike a balance between work and personal life. Always stay true to yourself and always stay humble. By maintaining this balance and nurturing healthy personal life, I can bring fulfillment and stability to my acting career, which allows me to inspire and encourage others more effectively.
As an actress, I hope to inspire others to follow their dreams, embrace their true selves, and approach life with passion. By connecting with my audience on an emotional level, I aspire to leave a lasting impact that boosts others to pursue their own creative dreams and live their lives to the fullest.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

First, I would like to thank my mother who has inspired me and has supported me throughout my ups and downs. She also never doubted I could do it, and was the wings beneath my wings.

Secondly, I would like to thank my father whose strict discipline has helped me become a better person since I was younger. Even though he wanted me to become a lawyer, he still supported me because he knew this was what would make me happy and fulfilled. He also gave great advice whenever I needed it. He was my rock and shoulder to lean on when I felt too tired to continue.

I would also like to thank my brother, Ntang and his wife Myriam and my nieces and nephews for believing in me, my family members, Linda, Jay for being one of my biggest cheerleaders, Susan, Felix, Wendy, Aunty Grace, MJ for always believing in me, the list is very long. But l also want to thank my supportive friends Maureen who is in the Bay Area but always there to listen and fly to LA when l need someone to talk to, MaryRose, Patience, Sylvia, Mary who l got to know when l was studying at Shari Carlson Studio in San Francisco, their constant cheers of encouragement brought tears of joy whenever I felt lonely. Most of them were there when l needed to rehearse for auditions, and they were the first ones to defend me whenever someone tried to criticize me or make me feel less of a person. They kept me going and strengthened my faith in myself because they never got tired of believing in me. Likewise, they are also my worst (in a good way) and meanest critics! *laughs* But I know that they love me no matter what because they often tell me what I needed to hear.
Additionally, I also want to thank my cousin Ranx who has been in the entertainment industry for as long as I can remember. Having him by my side and knowing that he understands where I am coming from has helped me put more trust in my abilities. He always gives me tips on how to cope better in this demanding career and I know I always have his back wherever, whenever needed.

I am currently training at ZA Studio in Los Angeles. My coaches Peter Allas and Robert Zimmerman deserve the credit. They continue to push me to be a great performer. Finally, I would like to express my undying gratitude to other family members, friends, and actors in my acting class especially Joan Powers, l have gotten to know and consider her a friend, they have expressed their belief and support in me. In the end, I feel very fortunate that I have met these people who are family to me. No matter how far we are from each other, I know that they are loyal and sincere people I can trust when everyone else may have gone tired of me or has turned their backs on me. I feel confident that they will always be there even if I am no longer in this industry or profession because they are the people I trust, love and will treasure for the rest of my life.
