We had the good fortune of connecting with Evie Sullivan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Evie, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
There are more misconceptions surrounding hypnotherapy than there are about the theory of evolution. Hypnotists are often portrayed as either entertainers or villains in movies and on television. However, as a therapist, my role is different. I utilize hypnosis to assist my clients in effecting changes at the deepest, subconscious level, where lasting transformations can occur. My work primarily involves helping individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, insomnia, and sexual dysfunctions (distinct from sexual orientation). Additionally, I aid people in losing weight permanently and overcoming addictive behaviors, including smoking, vaping, drug use, and problematic alcohol consumption.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a classically trained actress and was a member of Austria’s prestigious National Theater, the ‘Burgtheater.’ This experience honed my ability to use my voice effectively in hypnosis. My distinctive Viennese accent sets me apart from American hypnotists, echoing the accents of some of the most famous psychiatrists and psychotherapists in history, and it often reminds people of Dr. Ruth.

I embarked on my career as a hypnotherapist later in life, which I see as an advantage. It allows me to weave my life experiences and wisdom into my sessions, something I could not have done in my earlier years. The challenges I faced in starting my business were significant and sometimes disheartening, a common experience for many who start from scratch.

My unwavering ‘never-give-up’ spirit has sustained me through many dark moments. My journey resembles that of a ‘Stehaufmännchen,’ a resilient figure that always stands back up. I have consistently picked myself up and persevered. My goal is to help people become well, feel good about themselves, and positively influence others with their high spirits. I believe they can achieve this more easily with hypnotherapy, should they choose to pursue it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since my best friend hails from Vienna, she cherishes every opportunity to be near the ocean. We would stay at the Malibu Inn and enjoy leisurely strolls along the beach. In summer, despite the chilly water, she might even venture into the sea for a swim. In Malibu, I always make it a point to visit Geoffrey’s, my favorite beachside restaurant. Our adventures also include a boat trip to Catalina Island for a day’s excursion.

Of course, a visit to Venice Beach is a must, where she indulges in the vibrant street performances and observes the Wannabe-Schwarzeneggers at Muscle Beach.

I also take her to downtown Los Angeles to explore cultural landmarks like the Music Center, the Ahmanson Theater, and the Mark Taper Forum. A walk through DTLA’s Art District offers her a glimpse of the city’s artistic side, from galleries and artist studios to unique shops, restaurants, and nightlife spots.

Finally, a shopping spree on Rodeo Drive perfectly completes an exhilarating week in my ‘city of choice’ — though, of course, my love for Vienna remains undiminished.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I had the fortunate opportunity to train under several world-renowned hypnotherapists in the field, including Chris Howard, Freddy Jacquin, Dr. Richard Nongard, Roger Moore, and Tracy Barrett Adams.
