Meet EZRA

We had the good fortune of connecting with EZRA and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi EZRA, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose to pursue an artistic career because anything having to do with art is inevitable for me. Art and creative expression are fundamental to who I am as a human being. I’m a firm believer that pursuing art is my purpose. I aspire to heal others through my work in some way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art consists of abstract line work, 3D installations, and immersive experiences. The common theme each project shares is the intense emotion they present to the viewer. My main objective with my work is to provoke a reaction, good or bad. If the reaction is indifference, then that’s when I know the piece isn’t finished. Another main theme they share is dissonance and contrast. My work displays both sides of any spectrum: from color schemes and shapes to emotions.
I was diagnosed with BPD and other comorbid disorders in 2023. In a way it awakened something inside of me and how I produce art. I surprisingly felt free. Because of this and extensive therapy, my vulnerability is now channeled through my work as an artist.
Although I consider myself in the early stages of my career, I got here with consistency, long hours, and by the grace of God. It definitely wasn’t easy and it still isn’t today. Everyday is a struggle. With the support of my loved ones, God, and determination I can do anything I set my mind to and overcome any hurdle along the way.
Lessons I’ve learned are there is no formula on how to do anything. We are all out here winging it and hoping for a positive result. Everyone has their own way of doing things. That is what makes us unique.
Not everyone wants the best for you. Do 90% in silence and only talk about 10% of what you do. Keep your ideas to yourself and let others be amazed and watch you glow when all is finished and successful.
If you can help someone out by sending an opportunity their way, do it. We all are in need of a leg up at some point in life, not in a social-climbing type of way but to be a good person. The gesture will be returned one way or another. We are all in need of good karma in this vicious world.
There is no such thing as a mistake. They are cool- ass accidents. Doors close for others to open.
Lastly, Don’t give up because of one rejection, or 10. It is a competitive field but resilience and grit are underrated.
I want the world to know that it’s okay to be different and not everyone is going to like you. With that being said, I have nothing to lose. If I’m going to be judged or unliked anyway, might as well create with everything I’ve got. I want people to know that anything is possible, no matter how out of reach your dream is. I never thought I’d be able to have have my art seen by many. I always thought I wasn’t good enough and weird but it turns out I’m just eccentric and unique. Don’t change yourself or your craft for anyone. Just be you.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am incredibly grateful for the many connections and friendships I have made on my journey. Because of my gratitude, there are multiple people that deserve recognition.
-First and foremost I would like to shoutout Lady Beaver (instagram @ladybeaver). She is my mentor, dearest friend and an incredibly talented multi-facetted artist. Without her support and teachings, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
-My partner, Mica Fenley, is my biggest supporter in life. We are a team and he provides the grounding and warmth I often need in times of stress. He also challenges me creatively to become the best artist I can be. I have him to thank for encouraging me to chase after my dreams no matter the risk.
-DTLA’s Hive Gallery owner, curator and artist, Nathan Cartwright (instagram @kingbeeme), has helped me tremendously in my career. He offered me an artist residency and inspired me to push beyond my comfort zone. His welcome to the gallery has made me feel seen.
-Video creator, Ruben Richarte (instagram @11atnite), is a huge part of my marketing team. His talent for aligning with clients’ visions, attention to detail, and versatility is breathtaking. I highly recommend him for videography, photography, and promotion videos. Not to mention he’s one of the sweetest people I’ve had the pleasure in working with.
-My family’s support is what keeps me moving forward. I’m forever grateful for their openness to new ideas, grace, and the love that they show me.
