We had the good fortune of connecting with Fabian Alomar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fabian, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from Echo Park, a neighborhood in Los Angeles. Growing up in Echo Park had a significant impact on shaping the person I am today. It was a challenging environment, with high rates of gang activity and drug abuse. Unfortunately, my parents were heavily involved in these negative influences, which made it difficult for me to escape their grip.

Despite the adversity surrounding me, I discovered skateboarding as an escape. It became my solace, allowing me to channel my energy and focus into something positive. Skateboarding became more than just a hobby; it became a way for me to navigate and survive in a turbulent neighborhood.

As I spent more time on my skateboard, I started connecting with others who shared the same passion. The skateboarding community became my second family, providing me with a sense of belonging and support that I had never experienced before.

Skateboarding also taught me valuable life lessons. It taught me the importance of perseverance, discipline, and determination. Every time I fell or struggled to land a trick, I learned to get back up and try again. These experiences have instilled in me a strong work ethic and resilience, which are essential qualities for success in any aspect of life.

Moreover, skateboarding opened doors to new opportunities and horizons. It served as a gateway to explore different parts of the city and connect with people from diverse backgrounds.

Growing up in a neighborhood plagued by crime and drug abuse made me acutely aware of the consequences of such choices. Witnessing its destructive impact on families, including my own, motivated me to break free from that cycle. Skateboarding provided me with an alternative path that allowed me to rise above the circumstances and strive for a better future.

My background and upbringing have given me a unique perspective on life and a deep appreciation for the power of resilience and determination. It has fueled my desire to create positive change within my own life and my community. I aspire to use my experiences and talents to inspire others, particularly those facing similar challenges, to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my unique journey and the lessons I have learned along the way. I have always had a passion for skateboarding and acting, and these interests have played a significant role in shaping my life. However, I faced several challenges, including landing in prison, which forced me to reevaluate my choices and make positive changes.

After my release, I was fortunate to find support from (ARC) The Anti-Recidivism Coalition, which helped me reintegrate into society and provided me with the opportunity to become a mentor to others. This experience has been incredibly fulfilling, as I have been able to give back to the community and guide young individuals in juvenile halls to turn their lives around.

Professionally, I am proud of my acting work in films such as “Flamin Hot,” “Mayans MC,” and “This Fool.” These opportunities have allowed me to showcase my talent and share my story with a broader audience. I believe that through my work, I can inspire others who have faced similar challenges to persevere and pursue their dreams.

My journey has not been easy, but I have learned valuable lessons along the way. I have realized the importance of taking responsibility for my actions, making positive choices, and surrounding myself with a supportive community. I have also learned that everyone has the power to change their life, regardless of their past circumstances. My journey from gangs, crime, drugs, and prison to where I am today serves as proof that it is possible to break free from negative cycles and live a fulfilling life.

What I want the world to know about me and my story is that no matter how difficult or challenging life may seem, there is always hope for a better future. I want to inspire others, especially those who have found themselves in similar circumstances, to believe in themselves and their ability to turn their lives around. I am a living testament to the fact that with determination, hard work, and the right support, anyone can achieve their dreams and overcome obstacles.

I am proud to be a living example of resilience and transformation, and I hope that my story can inspire others to never give up on their potential.

I have this saying… “Anyone born into a path of gangs, crime, drugs, and prison. You can still turn your life around and live the dream”. Fabian Alomar

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Putting God first in your life. Believing that where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts of God is a profound perspective. It shows a deep sense of gratitude and faith in a higher power.

By acknowledging God’s role in our lives, we become humbled and appreciate the countless blessings and opportunities that are bestowed upon us. We realize that our achievements and successes are not solely attributable to our own efforts but also to the guidance and support from a divine force.

Taking this belief to heart, you are likely to find comfort in knowing that you are not alone in your journey. You have an ever-present companion watching over you, guiding you, and providing you with the strength and wisdom to navigate through life’s challenges.

Growing up, I used to love skateboarding. It was my true first love. I believe meeting people talking with people and encountering people happens for a reason whether they’re good or bad they’re there for you to learn from or walk away from, but the judgment call stands with you.

So everything happens for a reason I don’t believe in coincidences. I believe the universe has its way of connecting people.
