We had the good fortune of connecting with Fabio Lai and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fabio, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well, we have established Fabios basically at the pick of the pandemic, so our thought process was to create a concept almost non existent in USA. We thought that creating a Pasta shop that is fast casual, affordable and in which the pastas are homemade in the house.and cooked from scratch, would enable us to fill a gap in todays market.
What should our readers know about your business?
Fabios is a young emerging brand who had its challenges, considering opening in the middle of a pandemic. What mostly sets us a part is our Love and Passion that we put into our dishes. We make our breads, Pastas and sauces fresh daily. Also we keep our prices affordable in comparison to the market we are in today. We had Plenty of challenges throughout the process of establishment and it really helped, and keeps helping, keep showing up and to give our best. For overcoming challenges, we choose to embrace failure as a teacher , continuing to learn, and not letting fear getting in the way of our dream. What I’d like the world and all the emerging entrepreneurs out there to know is … it can be done! If another human did it.. than it’s possible… and if another human didn’t do it.. go ahead and try!!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start by bringing them to Venice beach and Santa Monica. Nice restaurants and bar to see… and a very entertaining people watch. Of course a surf session at the most known beaches in the south California area followed by a cold beer in a beach bar. Plenty of sites to visits from griffith observatory to the lacma, California also offer a great variety of outdoor activities.. so id plan a hike or 2 at my favorite spots which are Eathon Canyon in Pasadena and Cirlcle X trail up in Ventura,
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost I’d like to shoutout to my Wife Alejandra and my Daughter Amada Luz, who are constantly supporting me and helping during the ups and downs of the opening and maintaining the business. Family is a big value in which we have build Fabios foundations.
I’d like to shoutout to Neal Anderson who has been close and mentoring me into the process of becoming the Fabio I am today. He helped me tremendously understanding contracts, licenses, taxes etc etc. I definitely would not have done it without him.
