We had the good fortune of connecting with Fadhia Carmelle Marcelin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fadhia Carmelle, why did you pursue a creative career?

Sometimes, I feel like I am a huge box filled with emotions. I love expressing myself, and I always felt I could naturally do that through the arts. It felt the most freeing for some reason. I felt more confident and comfortable than any other outlet.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

I am an artist. If I have to list what primary art I fall under, it would be an actor. I love theatre, I love movies and I love stories. I am a fan of other categories of arts as well.  I was an art minor in college because I originally wanted to be an animator. Although I didn’t stick to that path, I still draw and paint from time to time; but acting is my number one go to.  Everyone has their own magic that sets them apart from each other; you just tap into the one you connect with the strongest.

I am so laid back and approachable.  For the most part, you will always see a big smile on my face. I also have a BIG laugh that many people numerous times have said it is infectious. I LOVE to laugh! Hard belly laughs are my favorite; they give you such good energy. I would say I am anyone’s pal.  I love how I can be one of the girls at times, and also one of the guys at times. I LOVE storytelling. Being able to do that through acting just feels right. I am always excited about what story I get to tell next. I got to where I am today professionally, by continuing to stay on the path of the hustle, constantly studying my craft, staying humble and nice, and always moving forward. Support from my loved ones is a continuous thing I am grateful for. Along with that, I have great commercial reps that back me at The Daniel Hoff Agency. This road is not easy. You deal with constant rejection and always have to pick yourself up after hard falls.  To get to where you want to be in any career choice, you have to put in the work. To overcome it, I just remind myself that there is just one ME, so I have to give 100% of who I am, and be the best version of myself. Having moments of self care to reset from time to time is also very helpful, along with having the right people in your corner. I am all about happy vibes and I love passing that on to people.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

If there was no pandemic taking place, my itinerary would be soooo full! But I will play make-believe for where to be: I definitely would take them for a nice cup of coffee at my favorite shop, Maru Coffee in Los Feliz. The people there are so nice and the vibe is so chill. The coffees and matchas there are great! I would take them on a walk to Beachwood Cafe. The neighborhood is great (you can see the Hollywood sign), and the cafe is cool and has a nice ambience. All Time in Los Feliz is a great spot for a nice outside lunch. The Village Idiot in West Hollywood is a fun place I’ve enjoyed eating at for dinner. The Broad Museum along with the Hauser and Wirth gallery are places I like to visit. If I want a coffee downtown, I would go to the Maru Coffee (second location) or Stumptown Coffee. For more outdoor drinks and more things to munch on, I love to go to Black Cat, Birds or Melody Wine Bar. For a chill place to then get books to take back home, I would send them to The Sklylight bookstore. I feel like if they went to these locations, they would have a good trip!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I have the obvious ones that I always thank: my family and my significant other. But the one person who has currently sparkled the most, has been my BFF Dana Martin. She is one who continuously makes me feel like a superhero.
