We had the good fortune of connecting with Faye Aguilar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Faye, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
The biggest risks can provide the biggest rewards.

Over the years, I’ve made many risks within my life and more specifically, my career.

The biggest risk I’ve taken was jumping the gun and opening up my own private salon studio.

As a 23 year old hairstylist and makeup artist, or creative in general, it’s a challenge forcing yourself into a massive commitment such as a business. Within my world, work tends to come consistently inconsistent. There is never a guarantee.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
About my art.

The thing that sets me apart from most is my capacity to listen.

As a hairstylist and makeup artist, I’m constantly coming across humans who have been traumatized by artists not having intention of creating beyond the instagram photo.

It goes beyond that. When I create, it’s a collaboration. I meet all of my humans where they’re at. People come to me with the need/want for change. That’s scary and vulnerable. Whether that’s routine maintenance, or a massive transformation.

In reality, I could do whatever I want to these people, but I know that they will have to live in it. It being the haircut that they wear for months or glam in a music video that will live on forever.

I am graced with the trust of setting the tone for peoples’ lives for weeks, months, years. I listen and I care.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I recently discovered new favorite spots in town.

My dream day starts off with a matcha latte from Maru in Los Feliz. 10/10 would have every day.

Although I tend to skip out on breakfast, my favorite spots are Cafe Los Feliz, Cindy’s Diner in Eagle Rock, and Sweet Butter in Studio City.

For entertainment, I’m usually going to see live music. My forever go-to venues are The Moroccan Lounge, Rubycon Records, El Cid, The Glass House in Pomona, and The Haven (also in Pomona). If I am at the Moroccan Lounge, I can guarantee it will be a great show. Rubycon is by far one of the coolest places in LA. Part café, part record shop, and music venue on special occasions.

If I’m looking for a sweet walk, I’ll either go to barnsdall art park, York blvd in highland park, or the LA river in frog town/Elysian Valley.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest shout out is to my MVP (aka mom).

She has always been the greatest example of strength and audacity. She is the reason for my survival and successes.

The other shout out would have to be who I call “my humans.”

Friends, clients, my support system. To set yourself up for success, you have to set everyone else around up for success. Not only will the be the ones to catch you if anything falls out of place, we will consistently grow with one another as time passes. A win for one, is a win for the everyone.
