We had the good fortune of connecting with Ferid Hasbun and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ferid, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

With business shifting to online in the last couple of years, I recognized my potential for offering my clients a complete video service that would help them stand out on social media by combining years of training in the camera department on professional film sets in Los Angeles together with my business degree, years of experience as Administrative Supervisor in Switzerland, and my arts degree.

Thanks to my experience in a business setting working with the different teams from Marketing to Sales, I accumulated extensive knowledge ranging from SEO to budgeting. I connected with different Photographers, Editors, and Producers in the last couple of years collaborating on commercial projects. And I knew I was great at capturing beauty with my camera. So, when I visualized how I wanted my business to look like, I understood I wanted to help solve challenges and connect people through video.

I am now a specialist in my field who during a discovery call asks questions from a place of wanting to understand the challenges my clients face and how I can help solve them with video. And if the project demands it, I’m ready to connect my clients with other creatives that I know from my past collaborations such as Photographers or Producers.

My decision to start my own business was a natural step on my journey, and I now generate value for my clients by delivering video content that understands their marketing goals and showcases their product in exceptional quality.

The focus of my video work is beauty. There are few videographers delivering beauty work, so that naturally sets me apart already.

I’m extremely proud of my technical evolution since taking the decision of starting my own video business. I’ve always had a great technical understanding and was generally curious about light and retouching. And so, in the last 2 years, I’ve put extra hours in elevating my lighting techniques and acquiring professional color grading skills to perform beauty retouch for video, which now moves me into a circle of specialized videographers for beauty work.

What I’ve learned in the process is that where there is a will, there is a way. It took hours to find the right source of information online and to connect with the right creatives. I had to overhaul my cold mailing approach and in general be critical of the systems I had put in place. It takes time for the wheels to start spinning when implementing changes but be sure that the results follow. So, patience and trusting your skills are key elements besides putting in the extra work.

And so, what I’m most excited about is to continue to enjoy my growth as an artist.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The great thing about L.A. is the variety in every kind of sense, culturally, visually, and naturally.

I would take them on a hike by JPL in Pasadena and grab lunch at Sage, Pasadena.

Have coffee at Café Nido in Silver Lake and stroll around the Silver Lake Reservoir with drinks at De Buena Planta on Sunset Blvd.

One day I would spend at the Beach, maybe a hike in the Santa Monica Mountains, and then tanning on Will Rogers State Beach.

Of course you have to enjoy a drive south towards San Diego with stops in Laguna Beach and the Mission San Juan Capistrano.

Visit Abbot Kinney Blvd with lunch at The Butcher’s Daughter and then drive back to WeHo with dinner either at Pura Vita or Gracias Madre.

And lastly a museum day with visits to LACMA, The Broad, or The Getty. Enjoy a beautiful evening with a view from the Griffith Observatory.
