We had the good fortune of connecting with Finnegan Bell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Finnegan, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I usually have a pretty imbalanced lifestyle, just like the chemicals in my brain. But I generally focus more on work than a social life. Starting a career and having a fruitful social life just don’t go hand in hand. I also just get easily drained from being social and being around people. Most people bother me usually, so I’d rather just be at home working on music or creating something else. I’m a bit of a workaholic because I get more satisfaction in winning than anything else.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I make unique music that is an amalgamation of other genres. The subject matter is mostly focused on my own mental health. I’ve had some proud moments in my career so far, such as touring internationally, getting attention from press and performing on German television. It has not been an easy road, but life isn’t easy and I know it could’ve been a lot worse.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
if someone was coming to Los Angeles and I was in charge of where they were going they would probably go back to wherever they came from being insane. However, these are the places that I would bring them around. I would take them to hang out in Venice beach and Little Tokyo. I would also take them to concerts at the 1720 warehouse and the Troubadour. I would take them to Scum and Villainy bar and I would take them eat at Roscoe’s. There’s so many interesting things to do in Los Angeles that it can be overwhelming at times, but I would at least try to take them to these places.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have many people that I’m very grateful to and I realize that I would not be able to keep this ship afloat if it weren’t for their knowledge, work ethic and/or skill set. Here’s some I can name off the bat, Daniel Alcala and Cory Batchler. They are both in my band and have a profound knowledge for music and technology. Without their skillsets, I would not be able to create music at such a fast rate. Shoutout my guys, they are some geniuses for real.
