We had the good fortune of connecting with Fond Farewell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fond, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I discovered music as a hobby before I discovered it as a passion. I found great personal joy in the challenges and the energy created when playing music. This expanded to a desire to feel this energy all the time. Since then, I’ve dedicated a lot of time into creating music. It’s a ton of fun performing for people and transferring that energy around a room. In some way, I hope my music can improve their experience in life, whether it be for a moment or a lifetime. Art is fulfilling to make and my love for that process is why I am pursuing a creative career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I try to create beautiful art and sometimes fail. I’m most excited to continue forward and experimenting. Everything I’ve learned this is field was from a hard fought path riddled with failures and uncertainties. It always seemed every new door lead to nothing until i realized the destination of my path was not important. I overcame challenges mostly in the form of knowledge and skill. I wrote music but I had no band and no money. I also did not know the first thing about the process of making a record. I actively sought out mentors, studios, training, means to make money, and all them didn’t turn out how I expected. At the end of it all, and over many years, I still to know a whole lot. However, I am very excited to learn. That’s what people should know about Fond Farewell. That we embrace the haphazard honest try, and don’t be afraid to move around a little bit. Say farewell for a moment to your worries and float. Float on the waveform in your ear or out of the speaker, and don’t be afraid to participate out there. I got to where I am through failure and want others to get comfortable with theirs. That’s how we all improve.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take them to like 50th floor lobby bar of the Intercontinental Hotel that beautifully overlooks downtown. Perfect for nighttime. In the day time I’d have to say the Getty Museum. The garden is beautiful when it’s in bloom and the art is timeless. With views above the city, the options are endless. I also really enjoy High Tide. Awesome venue with good tunes and indoor/outdoor areas. Drinks are good and tracks are slamming. Last thing would be a warehouse rave, because why not.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank Ryan Trask of the LA based band Niantic. He has helped me tremendously get more acquainted with the scene. He’s always working to throw awesome shows and put together great lineups. He’s creating new music actively with Niantic and brings iconic energy to every show I’ve seen him at.
