We had the good fortune of connecting with G Potter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi G, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
You’ll know.
It’s something that you are either taught or learned as a child. That instinct deep in your gut that tells you to “keep going” Wether it’s getting bullied on the playground, not understanding the dynamics of solving math problems, or just making a basic decision to go left or right on your journey. Don’t get me wrong, I”ve given up many times, but deep down, I knew I had to make the choice to keep going. I have had many jobs while traveling on this moving rock. My dad was a General Contractor and built apartment buildings. My first job was picking up nails that the workers dropped. Each one was a penny!!!! Later, I was a busboy at my neighbors Italian restaurant, Giovannis, then made sandwiches and pizzas. I was a Macys dockworker, women’s shoes stocker, Millers Outpost sales, server at Robert Mondavi Wine and Food Center in Costa Mesa. Thats where I got my Hospitality bug. Stayed in that for years, then was offered a job to be Dom DeLuise’s personal assistant. Sure, why not. That was life changing. Been through many celebrity clients through the years, and now I’m back in it, with a great person. Now, in between all those people and jobs, were decisions to be made. “get out of this business” “run” “it’s not worth the drama” but I kept going, and keeping going landed me where I am today. Best job I’ve had in a long time, and hopefully my last job. Making dream money, and benefits. I never would of got here if I gave up. Keep Going!!!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always been creative and thought I’d be a famous “artist” someday. But I’m just an amateur. My passion tho, is Succulents. I propogate them and create beautiful lasting memories. Just a side hustle, but is my zen, and happy place.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That’s a whole book.
I’d take them to the old farmers market for food, so they could choose any nationality they’d like.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Mom!!! She’s no longer with us, but she taught me my morals, principles, life lessons and I use them daily when caregiving and in life.
