We had the good fortune of connecting with Gary M. Krebs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gary M., we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always intended to be a full-time writer at some point in my life. When I left my last executive publishing position, I decided to finally take the leap and not even attempt to apply for positions. My initial goal was to garner enough collaboration assignments to make a living which, hopefully, would open enough time and emotional energy for me to work on my own fiction and screenplays. The gamble paid off…
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love working with content and creating! My Vision is “to empower authors with whatever they need to publish professionally and fulfill their dreams.”
These are the things I learned along the way:
1) In the beginning, test everything! Throw yourself out there and see what works.
2) Every few months, review your business and see what is making money and what isn’t. Additionally, identify what things drain your time. You need to make tough decisions and pivot when things don’t make money or drain your time.
3) Be tenacious: Always chase the Vision and the end goal.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you happen to be in Fairfield, CT, visit The Story Lab. It’s a wonderful space for writers!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It was my friend, literary agent Bill Gladstone (Waterside Productions), who brought my first collaborative assignment to me. I will forever be in his debt for jumpstarting my career.
