We had the good fortune of connecting with Gemma Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gemma, what is the most important factor behind your success?
When I started my jewelry business, my best friend who had built a very successful company gave me great advice: she said the most important thing is providing excellent customer service.

What I enjoy most about my business is creating personal relationships with my loyal customers and making them feel special. They know that they can text me with questions or requests for custom healing pieces and that I’m here for them. The nature of my business is healing based first, and jewelry second, which I feel is at the core of the success of my brand. For that reason, I am always on the hunt for rare, high quality gemstones as I feel they contain a higher vibration for healing.

I noticed a huge shift in my business’s success by growing my mailing list and sending emails on a regular basis. In my emails, I share my philosophy, personal stories, as well as offer VIP experiences and it really makes my day to hear that something I wrote resonated with someone.

At the end of the day, we all want to find our tribe and feel connected, don’t we?

It’s this highly personalized approach that I believe lies in the success of my brand. And the best part, it’s what also makes me happiest! When I started my business many years ago, I sold primarily wholesale to stores and it didn’t feed my soul because what was lacking was that personal connection.

What should our readers know about your business?

I’m always on the hunt for outrageously beautiful, rare, and ethically sourced gemstones to inspire my one of a kind designs.
On my annual gemstone buying trips, I have to restrain myself to not buy everything I love!

When I started my business, I made the mistake of not keeping track of my budget, what’s going in and what’s going out. This is super important for anyone running a business, but especially for us creative types:)

I can’t thank Tracey Mathews of Flourish and Thrive enough for creating her programs for jewelry designers or anyone with a product based business to grow their business. The main thing I learned from her program is the importance of working on your business, not just in your business. Before taking her courses, I felt overwhelmed by marketing strategies and now I find it to be fun and surprisingly creative.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Malibu so I would start by walking over to Sunlife for a delicious smoothie and then head on over to Big Dume to visit with the sea lions, whale watch (if in season) and hike down to Westward Beach. Afterward, we would walk a little further down the road to Sunset restaurant for lunch; they have a fun out door section with sand on the ground and a view of the water which makes you feel like you’re on a tropical vacation. Dinner might be the new delicious Thai restaurant that just opened up, Thaia, or for fresh farm to table delights, Malibu Farm on the Pier. If we are lucky enough to get a table at Nobu, that would be high on the list or perhaps a glass of wine at the bar which overlooks the Pacific. Next on the list would be shopping at Cross Creek and checking out a yoga class at The Mindry.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
