Meet Gen Li | Tattoo Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gen Li and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi gen, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
Because my wife left suddenly, my three-year-old child lost his mother. So I think it is important to stay healthy and tell white lies, so that children can be full of hope for the world.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am doing black and gray tattoos. I always pay attention to the details of tattoos. I think the details of a tattoo can reflect the patience and seriousness of the tattoo artist. I never feel impatient. I do it slowly, because if I do it quickly, it will be rough, and if I rush, it will be bad, and it is easy to develop bad habits. So I take every pattern and every line of mine seriously.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I will take you to Disneyland, because the whole world wants you to grow up quickly, but only Disney wants you to remain a child forever. I will take my friends to forget their worries and concentrate on doing what a child should do: “have fun”.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am very grateful to the Modoink team for their cultivation of me. My teacher Mo has taught me everything he has learned throughout his life, which has allowed me to remain humble and strive for excellence in my work. I also feel my child’s tolerance of me. No matter how much pressure or bad mood I have, once I hear him call me dad, my heart melts, and I am full of passion and yearning for life.
