Meet Genghe | CEO + Owner- Operator, GENGHE

We had the good fortune of connecting with Genghe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Genghe, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
Bringing my child earth side in and of itself was impactful! I believe that I was supposed to have my son and I believe that he is destined for greatness! I had a home birth and I was adamant about breastfeeding my baby because it’s a tradition in my family. And fortunately, those life changing events were a success. As I continue to raise my son I will lead him in a positive direction to make a mark in this world and impact other people as well.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
GENGHE is a brand that is a hallmark of quality, it’s opulent beauty that creates a luxe feel-geared towards protecting your tresses and protecting your crown ethically.
In March of 2020, I began making hair bonnets and I made a vow to myself that I would stay the course on my hair bonnet business journey. And then, a few months later I found out that I was pregnant! At that point in my life it was even more important for me to see my vision all the way through because I saw it as an opportunity to do multiple things that I hadn’t ever done before! I was in a position to bare life and make a contribution to humanity by giving birth naturally to my beautiful son -become a mother and expand on my entrepreneurial business ventures all at the same time! Going back to the opening question, I want my son to continue to see my efforts as a businesswoman and be impacted in such a way that inspires him to one day become a successful businessman himself.
I learned how to sew in 2017 and I played around with some basic sewing patterns. I made a few two piece sets, some skirts, some hoodies etc. I wouldn’t say it was easy but I would say it was worth it- for me to learn a new skill and then eventually produce items that people actually liked was very rewarding because it was a proud moment! When you’re a creative, you put your energy into making things that you like as an individual but your audience might not like it or gravitate towards it; be it the colorway of an item or sometimes the timing is just off to push a certain product for people to be receptive to it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well being that I’m a mom now, I don’t go out as often as I used to! But I would take my best friend to The Grove, the California African American Museum, a day party, The Dime, Issa Rae’s cafe, Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen- Slauson, Leimert Park and to any other Black owned establishments that I could think of.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Throughout my journey my mom has been by side helping me and encouraging me to keep going! Shoutout to my momma. I would also, like to shoutout my tribe and my family and friends!
