We had the good fortune of connecting with Gentel Sharrie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gentel, how has your background shaped the person you are today?

Born in Orlando, Florida and raised in Lexington, Kentucky, my background and upbringing really impacted with who I am today because I started out modeling and acting career at Images Modeling and Talent Agency when I was 4-years-old. I always wanted to be in the entertainment business as a kid, but it didn’t work out the way I wanted so I continued to pursue different avenues as I was growing up. I cheered,  I danced, I was in karate, and on the track team throughout middle school to college. When I started college at the illustrious St. Augustine’s University I majored in Mass Communication with a concentration of Broadcasting, I was the sports reporter for the athletic teams and the CIAA athletic conference. I became a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. and also served as Miss St. Augustine’s University. Once I graduated I started working at Fox News in New York and produced the News at ABC 57 in Indiana. Those experiences alone have prepared me for my journey in Hollywood.
Participating in multiple sports growing up gave me the skills to work in different avenues for gigs. Being a producer has helped me work behind the scenes, and being in leadership positions has helped me stay organized and keep going after my dreams everyday.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart is the word NO. I refuse to let NO dictate my future. If I can’t get through one door I know I will find another door to get through. I’m a hard worker and always give my all when being apart of a project. I’m so excited about what’s happening right now in my life. I’ve been in LA for a little over two years and I’m finally starting to see where life can take me. It’s an exciting feeling because acting in LA can be very hard. It may look like glitz and glamour when an actor finally books a gig, but to get there takes hard work and perfecting your craft along with embodying the artwork. The journey is so beautiful you have to appreciate the NOW and not be so worried about the FUTURE, I’m starting to learn that. One of the biggest lessons that I’m learning is after I audition I just need to leave it in Gods hands and not wonder if I’m going to get it or not because what’s meant for you will be for you. Success doesn’t happen overnight but when it does it will be worth the wait.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friends were coming to town I would definitely take them to some nice brunch spots, maybe hit some waves at the beach and enjoy the sun. I would also take them to Annie’s Soul Delicious. OMG their food is so good.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who have been apart of my journey that deserves recognition. I really want to thank God for leading me on this path and watching over my life. My family, friends, mentors and my acting coaches who have always had my back during my career. I also want to give a huge shout out to my Mom for continuing to push me to be the best that I can be. Her love and support really keeps me going, and she knows I am going to make it far in life which gives me the confidence to keep striving for the stars.
