Meet Geoff And Amy Mitchell | Founders of Museum of Make Believe

We had the good fortune of connecting with Geoff And Amy Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Geoff and Amy, what do you want people to remember about you?
This is not just about individual legacy; it’s about the legacy of the Museum of Make Believe. Our mission is to evoke a timeless kind of magic through fine art and immersive storytelling. We aim to transport visitors to an era when imagination reigned supreme. We aspire to fill our guests’ experiences with joy, mystery, and wonder, and to be remembered for crafting an unparalleled journey centered around an older kind of magic.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We created the new “Ghost Stories & Fairy Tales” immersive storybook experience by working as a team. Without Geoff and his artistic abilities and vision, the Museum of Make Believe doesn’t exist. Everything visual in the exhibit from the hand-painted cobblestone path to the magical trees to the art deco Starlight Park Theater, only came to be because of not only Geoff’s creative abilities but his ability to imagine something and make it so. I have always believed in him and that this is the gift he is meant to offer the world and maybe that is my most important role. We also have a tiny but mighty team of volunteers and other artists who have joined in creating the vision.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would recommend a day in Laguna Beach for sure! Visit the incredible Bluebird Beach across the street. Start the day with a coffee and an amazing cinnamon roll from our friends at B8kery and visit their partner steakhouse later that night for dinner. Grab an ice cream from Southswell and an afternoon coffee from Bear Coast. Stay the night at the iconic Surf and Sand. Shop at our neighbors Covey Gardens and Cactus Jane. Visit the free fairy garden at the public library. Wave to the greeter on the street. And of course, visit us at the corner of Bluebird and the Pacific Coast Highway!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to dedicate not just this shout-out, but the entire Museum of Make Believe experience, to everyone who has believed in and supported this vision. Creating a magical museum from the ground up is an unconventional endeavor, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have had so many cheerleaders along the way.
