We had the good fortune of connecting with George HannaWilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi George, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been pretty good at drawing Simpsons. One day I thought to myself “I could probably sell these online to suckers who love pop culture”. After all, pop culture sells. Also I saw the competition online and knew I could do better than most of them. Have you seen some of these Simpsons portrait sites? They’re lousy and look cheap. I can do portraits that look like classic Simpsons.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been good at drawing Simpsons since I was a kid. I never thought about it as anything more than a weird useless talent to impress my schoolyard chums. As I got more experienced at Simpson drawing I realized I could draw portraits of people in the style of the Simpsons as opposed to just characters from the show. I’ve made a little money in the past doing live Simpsons portraits at art shows and stuff. It hasn’t been very difficult tbh. I have always kinda done it for some extra spending money. I started doing it online to make even more spending money. It would be nice to make more money doing it. I think I just need to promote myself more. Talking to you guys is a good start I suppose. I’m pretty good at these Simpsons portraits. I’m a big fan of the Simpsons. If you wanna look like a Simpson, I’m your guy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Atwater right on the border of Glendale which is central to a lot of cool stuff. Night one, I would take them to my favorite local bar the Bigfoot Lodge for a few drinks then maybe walk down the block and grab a few tacos at Flamin Taco truck. The next day keeping it local with a walk along the LA River and pass by the horse stables. I’d head up to Los Feliz Blvd to my favorite record store Record Safari. Maybe we’d have a picnic in Griffith Park and check out the abandoned zoo. One of the days I’d probably take them to Universal Studios. Obviously I love the Simpsons themed area they got there. One of the evenings we might stay in and order some food from my favorite Chinese restaurant Chengdu Taste. I love the toothpick lamb they got. If they wanted to go to a movie I’d take them to Vidiots in Eagle Rock. They show a lot of cool retro movies there and they have a little video rental store that’s fun to peruse. I’m a fan of Bob’s Big Boy. I’m definitely taking them there. I might also take them to a punk show one of the nights at Permanent Records Roadhouse.
