We had the good fortune of connecting with George Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi George, what role has risk played in your life or career?
My whole career since moving to L.A. has been a risk.
I didn’t come here to become a clout chasing Hollywood stylist or to chase industry fame. I just wanted to become a great wardrobe stylist; just be great at what I love.
Denver’s fashion scene had its limits, so when the idea to move to L.A. came up, I made the decision within 2 months. I didn’t have a consistent job lined up just prayer and belief in my ability to hustle, work hard, and bet on myself.
Three months after arriving, I started working with one of the top stylists in the industry. That one risk, packing up and moving to Los Angeles changed everything. It took me across the world.
To me, taking risks isn’t optional.
It’s essential if you want to live a meaningful life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart is my ability to see people like really see them, and meet them where they’re at and use my creativity as a bridge. Whether I’m in a classroom, styling someone for a shoot, or passing out flowers to teachers, everything I do is rooted in connection. I’ve learned how to take what I know using education, fashion, storytelling, and use it to fill gaps, spark curiosity, and remind people of their worth.
Getting up everyday wasn’t easy. I didn’t have a blueprint. I just kept showing up, staying curious, and trusting my gut. There were plenty of no’s and doors that didn’t open, and sometimes I still feel like I’m yelling into a mic with 3 people in an arena actually listening but Im learning to build my own. I lean on faith, community, and creativity when resources are low. I learned how to pivot, how to listen, and how to let my authenticity lead the way since being here in LA. But I think that’s always just been in me. LA just makes you better at it.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know about me or my work, is that everything I create is meant to affirm and uplift. My brand isn’t just about style or education it’s about freedom, storytelling, and leaving people better than I found them. That’s the mission. That’s the heart and although I fall short I know I left them with some jewels that’ll help them along the journeys good/ bad/ indifferent. I sleep at night knowing I did give my best effort.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a spur of the moment type if a friend’s visiting LA, we’re going to
Start at the Santa Monica Pier for people watching and beach energy. Then hit Sqirl or Bacari Silverlake for food, depending on their vibe.
I love art so we’d go to The Broad or MOCA always a must.
For Fashion? Hmm Union LA, Supervsn, Walk Good LA, and Some spots on Melrose I know about dope or a pop up somewhere. I love it because LA always has something to check out.
If they like to hike We’re hiking Griffith or Temescal… and if they’re lucky, the secret waterfall trail don’t ask me the name. End the weekend at Leimert Park on Sunday. LA has layers and I like to try to show all of em just to get a taste for real LA.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people I want to shout out. This journey has been long and at times, painful. God first forreal!
But there are so many people who’ve believed in me along the way, and I want to name every single one… but I know I’ll forget someone, and I’d feel terrible about that. So instead, I’ll just say this:
Thank you to everyone who’s believed in me from day one. Thank you to those who poured into me, who watered me, who shared wisdom with me. To those who cried with me, encouraged me, spoke life into me, loved me, and saw me, the real me. I’m standing here because of your belief, your investment and your love.
And I’m Still fighting. Still dreaming. Still pushing for what I believe in.
