We had the good fortune of connecting with Georgia Geminder and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Georgia, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Balance is one thing I am trying to manage at the moment! Weekdays start at 6am, with a coffee from my fiancé. Our dog Hank comes with us for a morning walk around the block then it’s off to Barry’s Boot Camp or to see my trainer Dan for a good workout and that’s all fit into my mornings before getting into the office around 9am.

My work day will consist of sales, manufacturing, marketing, accounting and finance meetings. It takes a village, but luckily I have an amazing team by my side. I try to allocate a couple hours a day working ON the business, as opposed to IN.

Taking a break and separating work from personal life is important. On weekends I try to take a little break. While there is always more work to do, if you don’t switch off, you’ll burn out!

What should our readers know about your business?
I launched Gem in March of 2020 after noticing a gap in the market for chemical-free toothpaste that actually works. My initial goal was to make toothpaste natural and also trendy. Launching at the beginning of a global pandemic definitely wasn’t easy! However, it allowed me to refine the brand, the products and the packaging. Now since the world has opened up and things are running for the most part back to normal, we can look to global markets for further expansion- a really exciting step for the business

Like any business it is a rollercoaster. There are good days and bad days but I have an incredible team and we do try to keep things positive, fun and creative.
From initiation of the business as an idea to now selling 30k of our best-selling whitening pens in 12 months, it’s incredible to see how far GEM has come. I am incredibly proud of the team! We have been overwhelmed with the response and are incredibly grateful for customer, influencer and media support. If I had to pinpoint the success of the whitening pens I’d say it’s the great price point, and most importantly the products actually work- our customers love their whitening results.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Melbourne is a city which has no shortage of incredible spots to eat! Kicking off the day, my first stop for breakfast would be Top Paddock or Tall Timber is always a fantastic option. I love France Soir for a luxe Friday lunch, the vibe is amazing! To finish off the night, dinner at Grill Americano is my all time favourite for delicious pastas, meat and seafood.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I spent most of my early career modelling in Australia, London and Los Angeles. Modelling gave me amazing insight into the beauty scene and this was when I realised I had to enter into the beauty space myself from a business owner perspective. I also spent some time working at Remedy Kombucha, where I learnt about the importance of forming healthy habits and the microbiome. This was where I caught the start-up bug and my passion and drive for entrepreneurship set in!
