We had the good fortune of connecting with Giovanni Giardina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Giovanni, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born in Sicily, Italy. I am from a small town named Ragusa which to this day I cherish and love and where I made a lot of memories with my cousins and family. That is a part of me that has stuck along my journey and that will continue to have an impact on my future. For most of my life, however, I travelled around the world and lived in places like Pakistan, India, Qatar and Dubai. This experiencing of different cultures is something that has allowed me to mature and has opened my eyes on the different perspectives from around the world.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Deep down, I am a story teller, in fact it is something I was doing since I was a kid, making crazy elaborate stories with my toys. To me that is something important, I write my stories in a moment of inspiration pushed by something that happened in my life, in all of my films there is a piece of my life a piece of my story. I believe this gives each story an extra spark, something unique that only I can add. The proudest moment of each storyteller is the moment they see their story come to life. First with the script and eventually on the big screen. I am most excited about my future projects and what they bring to the table, a new twist with every story I make.

The filmmaking industry is a very competitive environment and I would not have been able to make it if it was not for the support of my friends and family. No journey is easy, there are always bumps on the road, the challenge is how you approach them in order to make getting over them smoother.

Like many of us, the pandemic impacted me greatly and it was one of the most impactful learning moments for me as an individual and a creative. I learned a lot about self care, cherishing every aspect of your life and making it part of myself and my projects. I learned to appreciate more the people around me and to turn negative experiences into positive moments.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles is definitely a city where there are lots of choices available. If my best friend were to come over for a week there would be obvious choices to do as hang outs like going to the Disney and Universal Studios parks for a day of fun. However, There are places around LA that have a story and those are places that I believe allow for a deep and relaxing experience such as the Sequoia National park and Griffith Park and all its history. Amongst other places to visit I believe a place like Malibu Café and Santa Monica are great places to go and have a nice day or evening with drinks and food.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Family definitely deserves the biggest shoutout, not only was my family always there for financial support but they were also always ready to be by my side every step of the way, They were there when I told them that my dream was to be in the filmmaking industry, and they encouraged me to follow this dream and to push myself to make it become a reality. They were there through the ups and downs of my journey and they were there to celebrate my successes. Of course there are others that I have to give a shout out to. I have to thank all of my friends that stayed with me and contributed in my craft in some way shape or form. The film industry is based on collaboration and without them there are many projects that I wouldn’t have been able to achieve alone.
