We had the good fortune of connecting with Gita Vellanki and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gita, what matters most to you?
I am the founder of Neeshi (www.neeshi.com); a woman-owned, all-natural treats company that was designed to normalize period struggles, and allow women to feel better through principles of natural food healing and Ayurveda.

I believe no one should have a heavy period stand in their way.

My journey started as a very personal one: to help my daughter with her heavy & painful periods without the need for prescription medicine. I saw my daughter dealing with heavy pads, leaks and hugging her ibuprofen bottle; a flashback to my childhood. As a teen, my periods were very heavy and extremely painful. My only option was birth control, leaving me with side effects such as persistent stomach aches, headaches, and unexplained weight gain. I knew I had to do something, so I set out to solve this problem naturally. Rooted in the principles of Ayurveda and natural food healing, I began baking these daily treats to support her hormonal balance. Seeing the amazing benefits we both experienced, I have invited many other women experiencing period woes to do a trial of our products.

Menstrual health is a very personal topic, and quite often, women are repeatedly told to accept their period pain or difficult PMS. Neeshi has offered a safe space to openly discuss these concerns, seek advice and also for women to understand that they are not alone.

At Neeshi, our all-natural treats ease heavy and painful menstrual periods, PMS, and hair loss by supporting hormonal balance. We offer chocolate mini cakes, mix-in powders, and muffins made with ingredients proven to support hormonal balance, such as almonds, flax, pumpkin seeds, cacao, maca powder, and gooseberry. In trials and with customers, our treats have reduced menstrual period length from 8 days down to 4, decreased flow to the point that super heavy pads are no longer needed, removed the need for painkillers, reduced acne/bloating/mood swings/PMS, and customers over 40 have experienced new hair growth and a significant reduction in hair loss.

I launched Neeshi to free women from the burden of their menstrual cycle. Women need to know that normalizing period struggles is not ok – they can feel better!

What should our readers know about your business?
Neeshi (www.neeshi.com); a woman-owned, all-natural treats company that was designed to normalize period struggles, and allow women to feel better through principles of natural food healing and Ayurveda. My proudest moment is when my oldest daughter, Anjali, attends pop-up events. Potential customers love to hear her story. She will explain how Neeshi has benefited her – how she spends all weekend at basketball tournaments and her period never stands in her way anymore. Anjali will look at the customer and me and say, “My Mom did this!” It’s an amazing feeling every time! These great moments, along with all of my customers who have shared their stories about how Neeshi has greatly benefited their lives (many have told me they never imagined they could feel this good), are everything I need to continue to expand and share the Neeshi benefits.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Favorite spot has to be sitting on the beach at sunset, listening to the sound of the waves. This sound instantly reduces your stress. But for a full day, I would start at Urth Cafe, I love their huevos rancheros and chai. Followed by a hike in hills, lunch on the ocean followed by some calming beach time, and then head to Korea town for a delicious dinner to top off the night.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Many ask what inspired me to create Neeshi – my oldest daughter Anjali – I love her to the moon and back! Neeshi is a very personal brand, defining who I am (Mom, problem solver, caregiver) and a product of my culture; resolving my daughter’s heavy periods, painful cramps and PMS with all natural tasty treats.
