Meet Glen George | Transportation Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Glen George and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Glen, what role has risk played in your life or career?
From a young age, I’ve always been someone to go against the social norm. When it came to finishing high school, while all my friends were preparing for entrance exams for colleges in India and around the world, I myself was adamant about preparing. my portfolio to pursue Transportation Design. It is funny now that I look back at it, I had no guarantee on how things would turn out but I was just focused on my dream. I definitely had my fair share of obstacles to being here, from disappointing teachers and family for not pursuing the ideal career of being a doctor or engineer to moving to the other side of the world all by myself. It was definitely a wild ride and with all that said, I don’t think I would have done it any other way.
Beyond my ideal career as a Transportation designer, I have also expressed and put myself out there in my other fields of interest. From music to film, I “eat” up all the opportunities that come my way, the risk factor of not knowing what I am getting into in a way motivates and encourages me to research, learn and deliver the best I can!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In a world where cars start to look the same, I see myself as a designer that has a fresh take on everything functional and aesthetic. Originally from India, growing up in the Middle East, and currently in California since 2019, my cultural diversity allows me to see, think, and problem-solve from very different perspectives.
I am excited about the new unknown world of being a fresh hungry designer and navigating my way through the design world. I have a lot of people to thank to be where I am today, my parents, teachers that believed in me, and the friends I have surrounded myself with. From taking the risk of choosing a career to be a Car designer which was a completely unknown territory and moving to the other side of the world at the age of 19 to a very rigorous College, and learning how to live alone – the risks I have taken big or small have been many and I wouldn’t have done it another way now that I look back. The drive to make my dreams come true stood way above any of the risks or challenges I faced and I almost didn’t even identify the risks and challenges.
Throughout school and being an intern at Polaris Inc. in Minnesota the growth I’ve had both as a designer and as a person is a lot, I feel like I’ve learned a lot – going unlimited with my creative expression while in school to being someone who can think and execute production-ready designs at my internship, I can go on for hours about what I have learned. But two things that I always keep in my mind come from my teacher Marek Djordjevic – “If you stop learning, you stop living” and from Mike Song Senior Designer at Polaris Inc. where I interned, “Walk with a purpose”.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am someone who is fairly outdoorsy and open to new experiences all the time and LA has everything and more to offer. It would very much depend on which of my friend would be visiting and cater to their interests. But things on the list would definitely be visits to the Museums, Huntington Garden, Driving up the hills, and Camping either at Pyramid Lake or Joshua Tree (if the stay is longer). Food is just a whole different scenario, I feel like I myself am discovering something new every week. I am also someone who is a go with the flow kind of person when it comes to things like this, so being spontaneous would be the ideal way to go!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
