We had the good fortune of connecting with GN$ and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi GN$, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Five years ago I decided to move to LA to pursue my music career. I was 20 years old, I had no money saved, no family in California, no job lined up for me, and I genuinely had no clue what would happen. In fact, I was so ready to chase my dreams, I paid a deposit to move into a place I found online, I had no clue if it was real or not. And to top it off, I would be moving in with 39 other people, complete strangers. That was probably the biggest risk I ever took and it absolutely changed my life and the trajectory of my music career. So I would definitely say taking risks has played an important part!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Music has always been the love of my life, music is apart of me, like my arm is apart of me. I have been creating it since my brain has been capable of making memories, as early as five years old. I have had a lot of things change throughout my life, music has always been my constant. It is where I am able to express everything about my life and where I am able to pour my heart out. I’m not ashamed to admit I’m someone who lives in my head, (probably just the curse of being a Virgo) but music is the one thing where I can be fully present. Where my mind quiets down.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them first to my favorite food spot, yard house in dtla. Then go on a walk at echo park and ride the swan boats. After that i’d go grab a drink at the bar with the best drinks in town, Bar Flores! To finish the night off, i’d take them to west hollywood to party and dance! Its my favorite place to be, everyone is so fun and its always a great time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this interview to a few people who helped me to believe in myself and have supported me every step of the way. First, Shakirah Edwards, she’s the reason I’m doing this interview, she nominated for me no questions asked and didn’t tell me about it until after. She always does things like that, and has no problem helping her friends get opportunities. She also was my first friend in LA and all of our experiences and adventures were the first things that made me fall in love with this city! I’m so grateful for her light and love in my life and for being one of the best friends one could ask for.

To My Grandmother,
Since I was little girl she has always pushed me to pursue my dreams in music. She always believed in me and showed up for me with every step I took. Thank you grandma.

To iris Isoa,
Thank you for being the best big sister and manager in one. Thank you for always supporting and believing in me. You saw things in me before I even saw them in myself. Thank you for helping me break out of my shell as an artist, I truly would not be the artist I am today without your influence!

There’s more people I could write a whole book of them, but I don’t want to take up too much space haha.
