We had the good fortune of connecting with Gohar Grigorian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gohar, what role has risk played in your life or career?
If you think about it, everything is a risk. So my approach is to not think about it. That’s not entirely true, I do think about the things I do and how I do them, but what I mean to say is, if you are striving for perfection, you’ll never get anything done. Put out that idea and see if it sticks. If it’s good enough, you can expand upon it and polish it up as you go.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an A&R Scout Consultant with Greaterthan, an A&R Innovation company with ties with all the major record labels, some independent labels, and Designer Distributors. I also am a Music Curator where I have booked and produced over 50 concerts featuring some of the best emerging artists in LA over the last year. You can find me at Tunes Go Hard everywhere on the internet.

My journey to these positions was an uphill battle as I started out as a fan just like many others but on my come up, I had no internships, no job opportunities, no nepotism. My passion for wanting to work in the music industry and my natural ability to talk to people introduced me to many different people. Some were the people I was supposed to meet for an advancement in my career, some were lessons to be learned, and some were a bridge to my destination.

I was discouraged a lot and told I’m not in the right place but accepting rejection won’t get you far. Persistence and consistency have played the biggest role in my journey. Be the change you want to see. And the change I wanted was, more women in music, more opportunities for people with no connections, reimbursement for services, and a kinder personality to an industry professional.

Right now, I take pride in knowing many people in the music industry in all roles of the industry, from the talent to administration. I am also happy knowing the artists I supported on my way to the jobs that I hold will get the opportunity to reach a level in the industry they may not have if it wasn’t for me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I’m a regular concert goer so at least 3 nights of any trip are going to be concert suggestion. Some showcases I regularly frequent are School Night and We Found New Music. I would also take them to some comedy shows either at the Hollywood Improv or Laugh Factory. Dessert 5 is a very nice bar and venue that has impressed me since the lockdown. And I don’t eat out too much or drink at all to have a suggestion on restaurants, so I would invite them back to my place for a meal.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely. Paula Moore, my boss and Founder of GREATERTHAN. On my way into the music industry I did the best I could with my resources and capabilities but having a mentor like Paula not only has given me the structure I need but the reputation I deserve for all this work I’ve put in on my own. Truly grateful for her, GREATERTHAN, and everyone who works with her. Extra shoutout to Madison Sweere for introducing me to Paula.
