We had the good fortune of connecting with GoodeBlazer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi GoodeBlazer, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up in a small town in rural North Carolina as an only child with not a lot of things to do. There were no skating rinks, no malls to hang out with friends, no bowling alleys so on and so forth. So if I had any desire to be entertained or have fun, I had to use my imagination and this was essentially the training ground that built my creativity. I would dance, draw, and, of course, write. I loved writing stories, scripts, and soon found a passion and gift for writing lyrics. That particular summer, when I turned either 12 or 13, I wrote over 50 songs; however, a career as a songwriter was never encouraged as an attainable career path. So it took me some time to circle back to my first love but I never strayed too far. With that being said, I like to think my ability to create in simple environments and pull inspiration from any and everything stems from the time I spent writing as a child in the country.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Writing songs is the thing that makes me the happiest. It’s such a spiritual experience and has taught me so much about life and myself. So to me it’s more than art and it’s much bigger than myself. I come from a place where being in the music industry is such a far fetched dream and to an extent that deterred me from pursuing my passion for such a long time. But seeing how far I’ve come from not believing in myself or that I had a talent to present day is mind blowing. Being able to express myself at such a high level is a blessing beyond measure and I am so grateful that I get to share my gift with others. I’m so proud of myself for taking risks even when the odds were stacked against me. The journey has not been easy but it has been so rewarding. Throughout this process of creative discovery, I found my voice and this is the happiest I’ve been in my entire life; and I have music to thank for that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is such a tough question! My friends and I are fairly chill people. We love a good vibe to laugh and chat and catch up. We like peaceful environments. So we’re definitely headed to the beach! Hermosa Beach for sure. I would love to take them to Bar Flores for a little cocktail and some gossip. Or maybe Tilda or El Prado. Good drinks and good company. I actually love getting couples massages with my friends so we would definitely swing by The NOW to relax. Go listen to some jazz on Thursday night at The Delphi Hotel Lounge. Hit the Getty or the Hammer Museum. Then I’d probably drag them to Malibu for nice dinner at Nobu.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my late producer Draztic! One of my first and favorite creative collaborators. He always encouraged me to release my own music and to believe in my own voice. And for that I am forever grateful and thankful.
