We had the good fortune of connecting with Grace Patterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Grace, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My dad always told me that the secret to life was balance. I have always been bad at it! I grew up dancing on competitive teams, on my drill team, and then became a college cheerleader and then a professional cheerleader. My life has never had balance! Eight hours of dancing a day for ten years was not balanced! Every time I start something-I make it my entire life. With acting, I have realized that balance is more important than ever, If I am not happy in my personal life- the camera sees it. When I take time to rest, hang out with my family, and slow down, I am much happier which makes my art better. I am finally learning balance and I now understand my dad’s advice. It really is the most important thing. Work hard but don’t forget to rest and have a life outside of your pursuits.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most proud of my two poetry books, The Things She Doesn’t Say and A Woman’s World. Both are available on Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Barnes And Noble. I have a memoir coming out soon, “Am I Perfect Yet?” which will be available on those platforms as well. I just had my first theatrical released film, Slotherhouse! It’s now number seven on Hulu! I have my first Rom Com coming out soon as well as another thriller directed by Haylie Duff. I am very excited about where my career is headed because it has taken years and years of hard-work. I have failed a million times more than I have won but I continue to push myself to get back up and keep going. I’ve learned to keep my circle small because most people will hate you for achieving what you set out to do. I want people to know that anything is possible! Whatever you put your mind to can be achieved! Success has many failures along the way- don’t let them bring you down! Also, people who make passive aggressive comments towards you aren’t your friends.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my best-friends Kylee visits every year for her birthday and we start the trip with a Happy hour at High rooftop lounge! Anywhere with a rooftop is ideal! Throughout the week, we would go to Malibu for wine tastings. The Malibu Wine and Beer Garden is one of my favorite spots! And, of course, we would hike the Hollywood sign. Los Angeles has so many great spots! Don’t forget to go shopping at the Grove!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shoutout Tim Grover! I love his books Winning and Relentless. I think he is such a talented writer and has an amazing message to share about what makes people good and what makes them great. I strive to be great not just good at everything I do. I want to be unstoppable. I encourage everyone to read his books!
