We had the good fortune of connecting with Grant Lyon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Grant, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Consistency. In this day and age, you don’t have to create the most amazing, highly produced content. You need to create content consistently. If you have an idea, don’t spend months talking yourself into whether it is a good idea or not, just go make it. And then after you’re done making it, let it go and move on to the next idea. Consistently being able to come up with ideas is a skill that can be developed with practice.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m both a comedian and board game content creator. I found a way to be both of my passions, so that’s pretty cool. I love comedy and I love board games! Being a creative is definitely not easy and it took a lot of sacrifices – sacrificing money, relationships, etc. I think the biggest thing that helped me get to where I am today is passion and dedication. You need passion and dedication to get yourself out of bed on the hard days, the days where it feel like nothing matters. When I feel like that, I remind myself why I started doing creative stuff in the first place – it brings me joy, and I get to bring joy to others. Even if I don’t feel that every day, I always come back to it. That keeps me going.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m taking them on a hike at Kenneth Hahn Park. It’s one of the least know places in the city but it’s got amazing views of all of Los Angeles. I’ll take them to check out the Venice Canals and then we’ll walk down to the beach and get some lunch at The Cow’s End Cafe. Then we’ll go for a drink at the Cozy Inn if they want a dive spot or The Blind Barber if they want a nice cocktail. And we’re definitely eating at multiple taco trucks. Maybe we’ll even do a taco truck tasting – get one taco at each truck until we’re overflowing with tacos.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Danielle Standring – she inspired me to make more content and she’s always funny while doing it.
