We had the good fortune of connecting with Grant Terzakis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Grant, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Leave your ego at the door. Take big swings. Learn from your mistakes. The times that I have felt like I knew it all are the times I have found the least success. Ego creates a comfortable complacency. I’m not saying don’t think you have talent. When auditioning its imperative to believe that you are better than everyone else for the role, but have an eagerness to learn. The best way to learn is to make mistakes. For example if you get a note or an adjustment, take the note. Don’t get defensive. That defensiveness is just your ego protecting itself and that is not a growth mindset whatsoever. Learning never happens when you are comfortable.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve just hit 7 years since I moved from Boston to L.A. and I feel fortunate to say that I have a lot to be proud. I’ve been fortunate enough to find success with bookings and opportunities fairly consistently and have been a part of some fantastic projects. But (and I am aware of the corniness and cliché of this so I’m just going to lean in), what I am most proud of are the friends I have made along the way. If there is a reason why I am where I am today, a reason why it’s felt easy, and a reason why I have overcome the challenges it is because of the community I have built and the communities that have brought me in. Los Angeles can be such a lonely and isolating place. It can be cut throat and heartbreaking. But it really doesn’t have to be. I’ve met some truly remarkable people in my years here. Some I met socially and we ended up collaborating and some I while working and we ended up becoming friends. It has been these people that have supported me through all the ups and downs that a career as an actor in L.A. throws at you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Zuma beach with lunch at Gladstones in Malibu. Hiking behind the Hollywood sign. A show at Groundlings. Stand Up at Hollywood Improv or Comedy Store. Take in the views at the Getty Center. A walk down Abbot Kinney.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All my friends who celebrate with me through the good times and stick with me through the bad.
