We had the good fortune of connecting with Grayson + Grey Prnce and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Grayson + Grey, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Grayson: I’ve always pursued creativity, but it’s also always been around me.

Grey:
I pursued a creative career, because it felt like I had no other choice. Creative work comes a lot easier than anything the opposite of that.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Grayson: It definitely wasn’t easy to get where I am, and I still feel very much heavy in my evolution as an artist. The biggest challenge I’ve experienced when it comes to art is the constant flux of creating nothing, and everything. Also the constant imposter syndrome. I’m nowhere near overcoming these things, but something that has helped me is to take the pressure off. I haven’t made hardly any music for a couple years, which is the longest I’ve gone without doing so since I was a kid. I’ve been focusing my creative energy on woodworking, and design, and now it’s been so long that I’m craving to make music again. I think that’s a good position to be in.

Grey:
Tattoo designing became an art form for me only during the pandemic. I didn’t think my intuitive channeled drawings would go beyond my Rhodia notebooks but Grayson really pushed me to explore that and even has the first tattoo of my drawings on his chest. Learning how to navigate how much energy my art takes and how I should value it. I’m learning that art in traditional formats is more challenging for me to do. Like canvas work and prints is so daunting to me although creating a piece that will live on a human vessel is so healing and causes me no emotional distress. Music however I’ve done since I was a kid and I finally resurfaced after my teenage shit quality SoundCloud records with properly produced work under God Save The Club Kids and have seen more success than I think I understood at the time might be possible. I put out one song that has already over 300,000 stream with no album, no press, no money behind it other than into the art itself. I’ve learned that I am lucky and that people do infact want to listen to what I have to say because it means something to them I think. Or it’s just very easy on the ears hahah.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Grayson + Grey: We love to host friends in our home, so we’d probably start there! Beyond that we’ll take you to Sesame LA, Wine and Egg, and the South Pasadena Farmer’s Market. For retail shopping we ‘d hit spots like The Bearded Beagle, Prelude and Dawn, Gorky, Mondo Mondo, and NOTO Botanics. Food is constantly changing, but if you were to visit us now we’d be eating Chim, Teddy’s Taco’s, Hippo, or Sage – we are not taking you to In-n-out. For drinks it’s either ETA or the Offbeat. We’ll see some obscure sights, and check out local gardens like Arlington.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Grayson: There’s a lot of people who deserve credit, but I genuinely couldn’t even begin to list them all. There are a lot of friends over the years who have taken care of me, and showed me what family means. The queer community + our followers as a whole are so important to me. I think the person who deserves the most credit is my partner for giving me a whole new life.

Grey:
I think from my perspective so so so many friends and chosen family have made an impact in our love and our art that we are creating. Chef Tara Thomas, HeartsRevolution, Erykah Badu, Sam Delacruz, Kat Colgate, Lucy Art Drop, Nadya Okamoto, Claud… The list is beautifully endless to me. Every life we’ve touched through our accounts. It’s almost impossible to go down the gratitude list and not forget some names but those are a few that immediately come to mind.
