We had the good fortune of connecting with GRLZ ONLY and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi GRLZ, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a group of queer women in LA, we were finding it very difficult every weekend to find bars, clubs or events that catered to queer women. We wanted to be surrounded by other queer women and be in a safe space to enjoy our evening and meet other queer women. We realized there was a large need for these spaces in the community, and decided to create the space ourselves for the community.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Grlz Only brand has created a safe space for queer women to enjoy a night out amongst other queer women. When we began Grlz Only, the most difficult task was gaining visibility in the community and being able to secure a weekend night at a nice venue. We have overcome challenges of venues not wanting to host us due to our brand being an all women event, but our persistency landed us some great venues and weekend nights which is rare for queer women events. We strive to create a consistent space for queer women to know they have a place to go on weekends surrounded by other queer women. A space where they feel safe, not judged and can have a great time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to recognize Alison Freed, owner of Cherry Bomb who has created a safe space for queer women in the community and who has also supported our efforts in doing the same.
